Transfer case drop after caster shim installation?

Hello all. It's been a while since I've been on here and since that time I have installed 2 degree WFO caster shims (correctly with thicker portion to rear) and it seems to have helped with some of the wander. I don't remember the before and after alignment readings so I'm taking the ex in for an alignment in a couple weeks to see where caster is at. If it is around 4 degrees positive caster on each side I'm thinking of redoing with 4 degree shims. Has anyone used the 4 degree shims and found the need to drop the t-case to compensate for the change in axle pinion angle to the front driveshaft? I know this is only an issue when in 4wd but if it will be a concern of vibrational noise or significant increased u-joint wear I would like to address at the time of the caster wedge installation. Thanks.

Depends, How are you planning to drop the Transfer case ?

with 2* shims you should have at least 5*
if you still have wander you a pretty serious issue with a worn out component, I’d be inclined to fix that before going down the rabbit hole of altering the powertrain mounts.

but yes, i have moved the engine, transmission and Tcase lower, higher, back, rotated it and just about every combination of those to achieve some desired result.

also, Yes I have run more than 5* of caster. Have experimented with up to 10* and as low as 0*

If you're having front driveshaft vibration or joint binding issues, why not look into having a double cardan joint front shaft made.

To clock the transfer case any significant amount, you'd need to modify the transmission cross member to clear the front driveshaft at the transfer case end. A double cardan front shaft would require less modifications to the vehicle itself.

Are you having any issues or is this a theoretical question ?

All purely theoretical at this point. Once I get the alignment data in a couple weeks I can go from there. Thanks all for the input.

A good shop will inspect everything that can effect alignment and not align it until any worn parts are out of spec since a worn part changes the alignment.

note I said good shop. Unfortunately most just set the toe and collect the dough.

anyhow, Post up your before and after specs.
