I will be replacing my radiator hoses soon. In the olden days, I used Continental hoses. Is that what you recommend or is there a better one? I don't want shiny colored hoses, just prebent black rubber hoses. So what's best?
Well. I guess one is as good as another.
I bought Napa hoses. Looking at the cast iron water pump connection and the lower hose connection, l know the old hoses will likely have to be cut and scraped off. In your opinion, should I sand/file or prep the cast locations before fitting the new hoses on? I've never used sealant one hose connections before but read online about using rtv or silicone? Opinions? Here's what 60 years did:
IMHO, I would avoid Gates belts/hoses unless you are planning on selling the vehicle within a few years..... they are short term life belts/hoses as compared to other mfgs such as MC, Goodyear, AC Delco, etc. With regards to cleaning the fittings, I use and would recommend a wire brush attachment on a drill.....not the real stiff wire wheels but the softer ones and they will clean that up nicely.
I went with Napa brand (not sure who makes them). I am also ordering clamps. They are stainless and 3/4" wide. They look like the ones on it but with a different bolt. At $8.50 each, I hope they are good.

ok well.. gates makes the hoses for napa.
The clamps were the wrong size. I drove around til I got ss clamps that fit but no t-bolt or original style. After I change hoses and clamps, I will see if the old clamps are salvageable.
