I have a question regarding the ZF5 for 4x4 trans swapping behind a Ford 300 six:
Would someone on the know consider posting a link here for what year Ford I would need, to find a ZF5 for my '70's vintage 300 inline-six ?
Currently am running a NP435 behind the 300 gasser with married NP205 T-case in a '77 F350 4x4 pickup. ( I pulled the 400M for the 300-six ).
I wouldn't know what year Ford pickup I would need to search for in P-n-Pull. Thank you
The 5th gear would be nice on flat ground.
I moved you here with your own thread as this is the section for your year truck.
The ZF uses an internal hydraulic throwout bearing. You will need to add a master cylinder to your truck to make it work.
If you find a donor truck, try to get all the clutch workings--you'll have to adapt, but it will give you something to work with.
One thing to consider is what gears and tires you have. You would be mighty unhappy if you went to the time, expense and trouble of putting the ZF in to find that first isn't quite low enough for your work--somewhat unlikely--or that overall gearing is such that you can't pull 5th gear on the flat.

I cannot answer your question but if you don't mind I'd like to ask you one. How do you have a '77 F350 4x4 since they were not made in '77? I could be wrong but I thought the first F350 4x4 was in '79.
Hi Dennis,
I converted the '77 F350 longbed Crew Cab chassis from 2wd to 4wd way back in 1996 thru 1998.
To do the conversion, I carefully cut out the 2wd twin traction beam crossmember to provide clearance for the Dana 60 front axle assembly from a '79.

I figured it might have been something like that. You must really know your stuff. Thanks.
