I have a 2011 F360 XLT with Sync 3 with software version 3.1. Ford website has Sync 3 version 4.6 as the latests and needs update. However it only allows selection of Find Dealer.
Is dealer the only way to do an update? If so, then never mind.
I updated my 2012 350 with sync. It was not sync 3. It doesd not have andriod auto apple car play. It was like sync not sync 3. Sync was like 2 2015 2016.
Appreciate that info... I may have to try this... How much better is it?
Dave, you cant "upgrade" just the software from one sync hardware version to another. Our 2016's have the original Sync hardware. Each successive hardware upgrade got the incremental number Sync 2, Sync 3, and now Sync 4. Each hardware version has their own upgrade path. I'm pretty sure the software in our 2016's has been functionally stabilized and we are where we are now. Using the USB chip was the method to upgrade our unit's when there was an update, as there was no "over-the-air" updates for these.

Thanks Dave. I've perused the Sync 3 hardware kits before on EBay from one guy in Michigan particularly but saw this and thought this might be a shortcut.
