Good body man welder for 78 f150 steering gearbox crack in Georgia?
I bought this 78 f150 recently and was gonna get wheel alignment, turns out it has crack? On gearing box-steering wheel area and has to get welded with plate. Is there any good old school body man near Atlanta Georgia area who can weld this professionally? I wouldn’t trust any body man out here since they do crappy jobs most of the time..
You don't need (and I would argue, even want) a body shop...any fab shop will make short work of that....welding on structural steel is what they do all day long.
Totally agree.
And even a lowly 4wd shop with a welder and modest fab ability has probably welded more reinforcement and patch plates to truck frames than most. Even enough times to be able to do it almost in their sleep.
In the '80's we literally stocked dozens of patch kits for Chevy/GMC 4wd truck frames. Sold probably five to ten a week at about $50 and installed one or two a week or so ourselves out in out shop.
I wonder how many 4wd/Jeep shops are left? Felt like we lost most of them in 2008, but seems that more and more are cropping up again.
Many customers just did it in their garage if they had a friend with a welder.
Now, if it's the gearbox case, that's a different story...

X2 any old welding shop could fix you right up.
Do they sell a plate to fit over the frame like was posted of the GM 4x4 had to fix their cracked frame?
If so get it and hit up a welding shop.
