Allright boys. I got a wild hair up my you know what to drop this 500(disclaimer actual HP may not be 500 but will be close to and a **** ton of torque) hersepower big block I've been building into this dentside.
Changed to a build thread, we doin this!
Which is/was my high school sweetheart that i re acquired.
Truck is currently a 400 and NP435.
It looks like Jeff's Bronco graveyard for the HD motor mounts, PS and alt brackets and possibly pullies?
What about mounting up to the Ole 4 speed? I know bell pattern is the same but possibly the 460 flywheel doesn't fit? I have a '79 and later flywheel already, engine is still external balance.
What flywheel, clutch (500 herse rated remember) and starter do i need?
I see some use a 390 flywheel and starter? I dont the balance be right for that.
I tried the hd motor mounts on my 460 that has l&l stands and the angles were not lining up now with the factory 400 stands it might be different
Previous owner used a 351m bell housing and removed a ton of material to fit a 12in clutch
l&l should have a flywheel and clutch kit that will work for you
I have heard the L&L mounts get ripped up like stock ones do. I do have the stock perches. I had wondered if a guy could grind out the bellhousing but that combined with 500+ lb feet of torque probably equals snapped bell housing.
I do see that JBG sells a flywheel and clutch but no mention of HP rating, it's expensive and a 6 week lead time that I dont have.
Got a 79 bronco with a 351m and np435 starting to consider engine and trans swap. 460 c6 looks like the ticket. Following your build help me decide and how to do it
I used a flywheel for an 84 F250 with a 460 when I did my swap. Clutch is an 11 inch. I don't know if a 12 inch will fit or not. I had to grind down 4 places on the inside of the bell housing so that the flywheel didn't rub, and I also had to take just a tad off the hub of the clutch disc because it was binding on the bearing retainer. I'm using a gear reduction starter from a 1996 F250 with 460. I spent months researching all of this before I did it
Fellers maybe if this truck didn't have so much sentimental value I'd consider it. The 435 stays (has a built c6 in the shop too).
This was my high school dream truck that I owned for many many and missed the opportunity to buy it back once. I had a second (or third depending on how you look at it) chance, scooped it up and here
we are.
I used the L&L 400 to 460 swap kit. It worked great.
This 460 is mated to a NP435. I used the L&L HD Clutch too. The flywheel (50 lbs) bolted right up. Make sure you order the correct one for the Internal or externally balanced 460.

I am calling L&L tomorra and getting parts on the way. You guys want me to see if I can get a discount code for forum members or subscribers to my YouTube channel? Be nice to get everybody 15-20% off.
Let me know! Also are the l&l mounts worth it or get the HD ones from JBG?
