I’ve got a 1994 f150 with the 5.8 Windsor that’s just been rebuilt. It’s new to me so this is my first oil change and I was wanting to put all motorcraft in it. So I bought the fl820s because that’s what I read oil filter is for that motor only to find out that it is too big and won’t screw on. After running all over I finally found out what filter would cross reference the old motor guard. It was a fl910s. Why would it take that filter when everything I see says it should take the 820s???
Is this mounted directly to the side of the block, or a remote cooler somewhere? If it goes on the side of the block, any adapters that I am aware of are 3/4"-16 UNF, which mates up with the FL-1A, FL-300, FL-400S, and FL-910S. The FL-820S uses 22mmx1.5mm threads, which, AFAIK, were never used on adapters in 5.8 blocks, only in remote cooler sandwiches.
FWIW, the 910s nor any of its aftermarket equivalents were never listed for F-series applications- the gasket is a slightly different diameter than what the header is designed to work with. It's only there because it's all the previous owner had that would screw on. It should have an FL-1A (Wix 51515) if there's room or an FL-300 (Wix 51348) if there's not. Mopar 090 is virtually identical to the FL-300 if you're in a pinch and one is available.

It is on the side of the block right below the power steering resevoir. So do they still sell the fl1A or did they get rid of it? And why would every system say that I should have an 820s. I was wanting to stay with motorcraft is the reason I got the 910s
Update: the FL1A worked perfectly and definitely was more like the size I was expecting for a motor that big. That's what I'll be using from here on out
