hello everyone. New to the forum. I need some information on a 77 f150 ranger xlt .460 C6 auto 2 wd. working on the factory cruise. I would like to change the steering colum and wheel. I would like to put an aftermarket tilt colum and wheel in it. Can I get a universal cruise control switch to operate the factory cruise. If I change it. Thanks.
Are you changing the current steering column with another OEM Ford one that is tilt and has CC steering wheel? Or are you planning on a aftermarket IDIDIT style one? If you get a aftermarket tilt column and steering wheel and then a universal switch that mounts to the t/s (lever) stalk or some place, you are going to have to figure out how to make the OEM wiring work with the aftermarket switch wiring. And you might end up without CC. What is more important, tilt column and a different steering wheel or having functioning CC?
The CC buttons in the steering wheel are wired thru the horn pad (with a connector in the back) of the very specific CC horn pad. And then wired into the turning signal harness and comes down the steering column and plugs into the main harness. So you should be able to get to the wires at that elec connection. Below is that connection and behind that SPEED MOTORS overlay it says (speed control) and identifies the wiring with what looks like a $. So 9A840 seems to have the $.
A FTE members (with a 1975) mapped out the steering column t/s elec connection and mentioned #10 blue/black is for CC.
See the lower left (to turn signal switch) that is where your aftermarket steering column t/s switch is going to be connected (wired) AND your CC switch.
Nice info. Thank you. I talked to the folks at rosta they said if i knew what voltages were present at each. Horn pad switch. When pressed. That they would be able to tell me what switch i would need. As i understand. It(lol) the control module sees different voltages. On the same wire when different switch functions are pressed. Thank you for the help
It is different resistor values for the set and coast buttons of 12v on is 12v off is ground. All that goes into the switch and horn function. Aftermarket column will probably have GM style turn signal wiring.
If I tried to figure that out, I am sure I would electrocute myself. Also is your 77 early enough to have the NSS (Neutral start switch), actually (Park and or Neutral) on the top side of the steering column? Or is it late enough to be on the side of the trans?
Just an idea. Made this with two momentary push buttons and a toggle from Radio Shak in the 1980s, there were 4 wires involved. As I recall, two push-buttons just momentarily contact ground, toggle is between ground and power. It was either this or a clamp on turn signal. Mine was a "DANA" kit but from what all I've ever seen, was same parts, vacuum can, etc as what most manufacturers were using, identical to Ford. I'll go look in the truck, I might have the papers, etc.
Yes mine is early but im no stranger to c 6. Trans. And have been giving some rhought to just putting it on the trans. As its not that big of a wiring job. If i remember the back up lugjts are there also. Thanks
Also thats what rosta was asking about the values. Of those switches when pressed. They said if iknew that. They would be able toget me the. Correct switch for my turn signal lever

Yes reverse lights are also controlled by the NSS.
I am unable to get to the shop manual at the moment. You can find them in any Ford product shop manual covering the ford factory system from 1970 up until the 90's, maybe further.
