My truck has been running great until . . . . . . . .
We went to the movies Saturday and just before we got there we went to Taco Bell and the truck started and then died and did that twice. Gave it some gas and it stayed running. After the movies we came out and it would not start. It turns over but I cannot hear the fuel pump engaging. So it appears that my truck is suddenly not getting any fuel to allow it to start.
I have a 1992 F-150 (302) Supercab Flareside with duel tanks. I have heard that the fuel pumps in both tanks work together? I just don't understand what would make it suddenly not run. I went out and bought a fuel pump relay and replaced that and it didn't change things. I checked all the fuses and they seem to be ok.
i would first check to make sure that you got the correct relay
i believe the fuel pump relay is green
next i would check the inertia switch, i believe in that year it is mounted either on the right side kick panel or on the firewall inside by the gas pedal
Only one pump at a time runs. It depends on the selector switch. If you flip it to the other tank (assuming they both worked before) and you get the same behavior, you can rule out the fuel pump as the cause.
If you can't hear the pump running when you first turn the key, then you have a wiring problem, a broken PCM, a tripped inertia switch, or a broken relay.
Thanks for the replies. Of course at this time, I cannot find my manual. Anyone have a picture of the wiring for the fuel pump? Both switches for the two tanks have always work. I change tanks each time I run one out. When I flip both I still don't hear a sound from the fuel pump. Next I am going to check the wiring. Just seems weird that it just happended so suddenly.
