I am still look for a replacement for my old 64 F250. I ran across an 88 F150 4X4 with a 302 and automatic, one problem is it has about 170K. Except for the miles it seems to be in excellent shape. The first owner put all highway miles on it and seemed to take pretty good care of it, no rust, no tears in the interior only one ding on a door. The current owner says he has had it for about 3 years an put 20K on it. He also put a new gas tank & fuel pump, replaced the auto hubs with lockouts and a complete brake job. He also said the trannie was leaking oil and he had a shop replace the pump seal (says he has receipts). I know nothing about auto transmissions and what is a pump seal? When you replace it do you get a good inspection on the internals of the transmission to spot other problems? What specific parts on the front end are prone to wear and need close attention on half tons? I will be checking the compression and might just as well figure in a new water pump and timing chain in the purchase. For the asking price $1800 I figure $1500 should buy it so it should fill the bill as the 3rd or 4th vehicle.
