My name is Dave. I have a 1949 F5 COE Marmington Harrington All Wheel Drive. I have been working on it slowly for about a year now. looking for extending hinge pin mirrors. Haven't had any luck finding them. If anyone knows where to find some, I would sincerely appreciate it!
49COE, welcome to FTE the best Ford truck Forum on the World Wide Web! We have several guys here that have COE's and some know quite a lot about them. Most any one here that has a 48-52 truck could help you with the mirrors. They may not have them but would know more than me. My area of interest is 53-56 trucks.
Chuck Mantiglia who owns Chuck's Trucks has several COEs and could help with parts.
One thing you must before you are officially a member of our Ford truck society is to post pictures of your truck.
Add my welcome. Great to have another M-H guy join the group. I’ll ditto the above suggestion that you get to know Chuck Mantiglia of Chuck’s Trucks. He is the M-H guru, and has big trucks of his own. He may have the hinge pin mirrors, or may offer a source. I’ve gathered up a few old ones at swap meets over the years and have learned there are right hand and left hand mountings, long and short shaft styles, and some expandable. I’ll assume you might be wanting the longer shaft style for your COE. Also learned that the hinges on my ‘47 are smaller than on my 51/52s.
I don’t envy you needing to remove your hinge pin(s) to mount them. I’m fighting them on my 52 right now so I can test fit the doors to the repaired cab. It’s a miserable job. Stu
Really appreciate all the feedback. Learning how to do this. Will enlist the help of my girlfriend and daughters and figure out how to post the photos!
maybe it's just me, but I'm not seeing the adjustable part. It looks like the standard, fixed arm rod. Could someone have swapped it out from the NOS kit? Or am I just missing the sliding part and clamp?
No Wayne, your eyes aren’t that old. It’s the one piece rod type. If Dave buys it and wants the adjustable rod I have several and he’s welcome to one. Stu
Looks like an adjustment screw and collar to me on each end.
Regards, Mark
The silver rods and pile of hardware are the brace kit. It's a separate kit from the mirror set, shown with it's own box. Interestingly, the parts catalog calls for the brace kit to be used with a different mirror, BAAA 18402-B.
Trying to figure out how to post and participate in this forum is more difficult that trying to retire my F5! I am NOT very good w my phone or computers…
