Summit Racing’s Project Baja Bronco Build
We’ve wanted to do a new Ford Bronco off-road build for a while. We got our hands on a 2022 Ford Bronco and got it into our Summit Racing studio. We thought where better to share it than right here on FTE in the 2021+ Bronco section! This is more than a build. It's also a tribute to the legendary off-road racer Rod Hall. More specifically, the race truck he used to win the Mexican 1,000 race way back in 1969. We’re not making this modern Bronco with creature comforts into a stadium or trophy truck. Instead, we’re doing subtle off-road mods to give this Bronco more serious trail capability while being daily-driver-friendly. In Episode 1, you’ll meet our new Ford Bronco and see the off-road upgrades we have planned. We’ll also share a bit of history on Rod Hall and the Mexican 1,000 (now called the Baja 1,000) off-road race.
For folks looking to add performance mods, suspension mods, or accessories to their 2021+ Bronco check HERE for everything we have to offer! As aftermarket support grows for these new-era Broncos look for our product lines and manufacturers to grow!
Follow along for future updates with the build in the coming weeks! Thanks for watching!
Hey Folks,
So we gave you an introduction to our 2022 Bronco "Project Baja Bronco". Now let's get to work!
For Episode 2, the Baja Bronco project begins in a familiar place: wheels, tires, and suspension. Our build team went with a Superlift suspension kit that will raise the Bronco about two inches. The lift gave us plenty of room to stuff in a quartet of 35-inch BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 tires. The KO2's are wrapping around retro-styled Fifteen52 Patrol HD Asphalt Black Wheels. These complement the throwback vibe of the entire Project Baja Bronco build.
When swapping a new tire and wheel package onto a vehicle with a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), get a new set of TPMS sensors. We used this set from Ford Performance for our Bronco.

In Episode 2, we lifted our Ford Bronco and fitted it with a new wheel and tire package. For Episode 3, we'll start with a new front bumper that will accommodate a rugged winch and extra off-road lights. Since our Bronco has adaptive cruise control, we have to relocate the sensors into the new front bumper. There’s a handy kit to make that happen. Then, we install a new off-road rear bumper to add trail protection and recovery points. Finally, the Bronco gets new rock sliders. These will help protect the rig’s sheet metal and chassis giving us supplemental jacking points on the trail.
