Power mirrors/map lights will not work.

Hello,

Finally decided to create an account after not finding a post to help me with this problem. Thank you in advance for your help!

Like it says in the title neither one will work. I see that they're both on that green/yellow wire so figure its the same issue causing neither one to work. I've checked voltage at power mirror connector and there's no power. I've looked in the door panel, door boot and have taken out the gem/fuse box and can't find any issues has to why I'm not getting power. I'm not getting continuity from the green/yellow wire from mirror connector to any of the plugs going into the gem but I do get continuity from the connector to the map light wire. The fuse is good and I just installed brand new mirrors. If someone could point me to where another break in the line could be that'd be great! Or another wire I could just splice into to get the power I need for it to work. Thank you in advance for trying to help me figure this headache out for me, I've been at it for days. Oh, and it looks like at the power mirror connector the black ground wire pin looks burnt but it is working as I do have continuity there.

Welcome to FTE ! Have you tried changing out the fuse instead of testing the fuse that was in there? I've heard of other guys on here that had a fuse that tested good but was not seated properly in the fuse box. Worth a shot if you haven't already tried. Others will be along shortly to offer their advice.

Thank you!

I've tried 2 different fuses. I hear what I assume is the relay clicking when I put the fuse in?

Did you completely remove and check the wires in the door boot? A wire can fold in half and eventually break all the inner strands but still be OK on the outside. One way I have found a broken wire in a door boot is to activate the switch for the item in question while swinging the door back and forth, sometimes this will cause intermittent operation of the device which points to a broken wire.

Is removing the entire harness difficult? I couldn't find a plug, it looks like it goes into another loom and then to the gem? Or does the wire go into the bolt in connector below the gem on the fuse box? I tried to read continuity on all the green/yellow wires going into the gem/fuse box but got none. I've tried wiggling, pushing/pulling the wires in the boot but still get no voltage

It's not easy by any means. You could try stabbing a pin into the suspect wire at each end of the part that bends and look for voltage then seal the holes with a dab of silicone. I did a Jeep Grand Cherokee once and it was not easy, I slid the boot inside the door then cut and spliced the broken wires with solder and bits of new wire.

I just don't know which pin that wire goes into as there's 3 separate green/yellow wires going into the box. I'm weary of just poking ones thar aren't the right ones. Might just have to suck it up and pay someone to figure it out at this point. I appreciate your help

What year/body style?
Did the old mirrors work?
Does the dome/courtesy light work (I believe they are on a separate circuit, just asking)

99-2002 it should be pin 18 at the fusebox, powered by fuse #4.

Map lights, Glove compartment, underhood lamp run on the same fuse #4.

The dome, cargo, and courtesy lights run on fuse #14, if that helps at all.

The glove compartment has voltage but the sensor looks broken (see attachment). The hood light works. The dome light works but the map lights do not. Old mirrors did not work but they were complete trash, needed new ones regardless thought maybe it was just the old motors not working. I have a 99.5 crew cab.

For pin 18 on box.. is that pin you're referring to the left or right connector that's screws into the box? One is a red box connector, the other is a white.

Schematic didn't specify connector, just pin. If I have a minute I'll try to find connector views.
power at the glovebox and underhood is good news... have you checked continuity to ground on any of the inop items?

Sorry, I only have basic knowledge on electrical. But I do have ground continuity at power mirror switch connector. I have not checked at the map light though, just figured that was good as I do get power to the dome light or is that not the case?

If you have ground continuity on the power mirror switch that should be good enough for the mirrors.
The lights ground at a different location so don't worry about that until you want to make all them work.

It looks like the connector on the fuse block where pin 18 is located is C242A. The Map, glove and underhood lights get their power from the exact same wire, so since your hood light works I wouldn't worry about the fusebox anymore.
I just noticed a note about the map light power supply w/o power mirrors... interesting. I haven't come across a note about map light power with power mirrors.

It only looks like there is one splice between the fuseblock and the mirror switch, your threshold wiring looks good.
If you have wire piercing leads you can check for voltage on the LTGRN/YL in the kick panel to eliminate anything before it, or just start backprobing until you find voltage or a good place to cut it and splice in power.

Heres the mirrors schematic... shows different connector for 99 than 2000, I usually assume 199.5 is the same as 2000.

Does the switch light up when you turn on the headlights?
