The heat blend door on my truck is rotated by a red lever on top of the AC housing - behind the glove compartment. The post on the red lever engages into a white plastic piece that the control cables turn when the heat/cold **** is turned. The post on the red piece, on my truck, is broken off, so I have no way to turn on the heat. This photo is not mine. Mine is missing the post. Does this plastic piece slip out? - or is it part of the shaft. I don't want to break it off, but if it is separate from the actual blend door shaft, then I will pull it off and try to repair or replace it.
I did discover that the red lever did pop out with a little effort. Now I have to find one of those, and they are not to be found. I might get lucky and find one at a junkyard if some of the dash has already been removed.
I think it should be fairly easy to replace that post with something similar. Even if the post was metal you could attach it from the bottom with a screw. If you made a plastic post, JB Weld has plastic adhesive to attach them.

I was thinking a small screw same size as post was with nice large washer on both sides of the red plastic and a self locking nut
I got one at the junk yard, and put it on. That red piece is carefully engineered so that it will be the only thing that will fit into that blend door shaft. I still don't get any heat through the vents, and my blend door is working. I pulled the heater core, and it is clean and hot when the water is going through it. I'll figure it out eventually.
Hey I also don't have heat in mine, and now I know where to look for why. Thanks!
I told you this! My peg failed on the '92, luckily late trucks had an updated push/pull cable setup. There is some TSB on it, I will try to find it and post for you guys.

Of course, you can just install a late box
