1990 F250 burning smell from dash/passenger side door panel
the other day I was driving my truck and all of a sudden I smelled a burning smell coming from what I thought was the dash near the radio.
I pulled over and didn’t see any smoke, or anything burnt however it smelled really bad.
I got home and still couldn’t find anything wrong other then the smell.
the next day I tried locking my doors and my door locks didn’t work. I switched the fuses under the steering wheel with the power windows fuse and that didn’t fix the issue.
I then tried to lock the passenger door with the key and it wouldn’t go all the way down.
I pulled the door panel off and found this wire going down into the inside of the door panel and I believe it goes to the door actuator, however for the life of me I can’t figure out how to pull it out.
I also got a strong smell of that burning coming from inside the door panel cavity so I’m guessing that whatever the wire goes to fried.
however I don’t know why it would have burned up while I was just driving.
any thoughts on how to test, or remove it and replace it would be helpful.
To replace the actuator, you will need to disconnect the rod from it. Then looking at the back panel of your door, you will see a rivet. Drill out this rivet, and actuator will be freed. Replace new actuator with a short nut and bolt setup, or a new rivet. Nut will be on the outside of the door. Its kind of a pain to do. I used a longer bolt than necessary, and used bolt cutters to trim it off flush with the nut. Plenty of clearance in the door jamb from this.
Those wires need to be protected from the door panel pushing them into sharp inner door areas.
