Hello, I finally took my 2020 F-250 Power Stroke to check the trans that I was having issues, I posted before on the problems thought I would need a new thread...called the dealer today and they told me "two months" needs a teared down..they had others inline...I have the extended warranty..this is crazy...question I have am I entitled for a loaner ? Any other options ?
$ 45 for ten days with other options, they have to review every ten days...I pay the rest and haven't even looked...I was going to order a new one...never expected this !!
My original dealer said he has 7 inline for repairs...MUST be a huge problem with that trans...you would think they would just send another trans, I'm sure they have them..
You could have them make a note in the record for your truck that you wanted it looked at now but they would not be able to get to it for a couple of months.
It's possible to get warranty work done outside of a dealership, but I think you need to get approval from the dealer and/or ford. Might be something to look into. Also try to read the fine print of any warranty you have.
I have an extended warranty though my Geico insurance, but it wants you to use the dealer for when the vehicle is covered by the factory warranty. Once out of warranty it has been easy to use.
Are dealers really that backed up with work? or is it that only have one guy that is competent at diagnosing things and that individual is that back logged. Or it is the service dept not willing to order parts until a diagnosis has been done and there is a long lead time for parts? I doubt most transmissions need to be torn down to diagnose. Is the service dept doing a rebuild or are they just going to put a new/rebuilt tranny in? You would think with the labor rates that dealers charge they should have an easy time hiring techs, but I guess the labor rate rate only trickles down to the tech and the dealer pockets a major part of it.
I am in the same boat. In line with my dealer for transmission repair as well, commercial truck department. 2020 F250 7.3L build date 2/2020. Going on a month so far and waiting for garage time for tear down. Even then, they say there's difficulty getting parts due to supply issues so it may still be many more months out before getting fixed.
Another dealer I called a couple of months back wouldn't even look at Super Duty trucks with transmission issues.
In the meantime, I completed a J.D. Power Survey where I tore Ford a new one on this problem.
My warranty is with and purchased through Ford ...I called Ford customer service was on the phone for an hr...they called multi able dealers same story...And some say no parts available. yet there building new trucks..they talk about shortage, maybe they come with out a trans...
I'm sure there others like me not happy...just don't know whats going to happen.
Well, I was in the same boat. 2020 F250 Diesel made in Sept 2020 outside of the recall letter on transmissions. Back in late July I went out to start my truck and the engine warning light and wrench came on (still under warranty). Truck was basically stuck in 7th gear. Had to wait two weeks to get it in the shop and at first thought it was the TCM but after being at the shop for a week they determined catastrophic transmission failure. Ford set me up with an F150 and paid for a rental for 9 weeks. They did not rebuild my transmission, my dealer ordered a new one but there was no timeline to get it, but it did arrive after 9 weeks. Runs better than the original. I'm in California FWIW. Good luck.

what issues did yours have? I have a 22 f450 lariat I get worried about. It's got 9200 miles but 1.5 weeks ago I was towing my 7000lb trailer and my truck downshifted from 3rd to2nd and threw up reduced power mode. Hasnt done it sense, but I randomly still get hard downshifts 3-4 times a week. My 22 f350 with 2k doesn't do it, and my f450 didnt start this till about 7k miles. I just ignore it but reading your thread makes me think on it again.
I called around five dealers in my area...all with the same info, most said after the New Year they had multiple transmissions on the bench....My dealer said he had no loaners but will call when he gets one....yup !
Since I'm really getting nowhere i called a highly recommended Trans shop by me...told me two weeks with Ford parts and around $6000 to fix so it...up to me what to do...I have the Ford extended but that won't help me there...I asked him if I could drive it and said as long as the bell housing doesn't explode he can fix it...I may drive it until that happens and hope it holds up for the three month wait.. but it is getting worse... I may have to look for another cheap vehicle in the mean time...still thinking !

Thanks for the responses
I would say, unless your truck makes you money and you are now loosing money because it’s broke, then pay the 6K to fix it and deal with Ford later. If it’s a personal truck for personal use, wait and make Ford fix it.
