It must vary dealer to dealer. I had transmission issues with my 21 F250. Told my dealer and he made me an appointment 2 weeks out just so he could put me in their loaner pickup. But if I needed to get it in right away they go to Enterprise across the street and get a rental. I have always purchased the extended warranty with 1st day rental and the enhanced rental for this reason. If I drop my truck off for an oil change I can get a rental if I want. Dealer provides it or they outsource the rental for me.

I also had my trans replaced it was over $8k on the invoice and took 2 weeks start to finish from when I dropped it off. Truck only had 11,000 miles on it when it was replaced.

Mine starts to lunge in lower gears then settles down, but when it shifts from 9th to 10th jumps and looses power...like it stalls.. started about two weeks ago and progressively getting worse. Other than this BS Power Stroke runs well..

All too familiar sounding. Ford replaced my trans and still shifts the same way. If they put it in relearn it will drive great until it "learns" again to shift bad.

I must've gotten a trans that was build on a Wednesday, no major issues at all, so far (knock on wood). The only minor thing that I've noticed is that occasionally when upshifting it appears to skip 4th gear (but no hesitation or noticeable change that I could tell). For all I know, that could be completely normal. And, I would've never known, unless I just happened to be looking at the gear indicator.

So, perhaps I'm the lucky one with a good trans. Damn it, now I've probably just cursed myself....

I have a case # with Ford, I will call again to see if other shops can fix it...but I highly doubt it. My dealer doesn't have a loaner at this time, if I have to go through car rental.. not sure if Ford going to pay for three months and other liability... Just curious if any mechanic knows whats going bad with them ?

Thanks

You should expect this to get worse. My 2020 7.3 Lariat Ultimate did that about 15 weeks ago. 9 weeks ago it went into 7th gear limp mode and gave the wrench icon on the instrument display. It has been at the Ford dealer ever since. It took more than 5 weeks to get the parts needed to fix it(which was totally unacceptable to wait that long) but they didn't ship a gasket kit. I've been waiting 5 weeks for a gasket kit so they can close up the tranny just to see if they fixed the issue.

That's on back-order and is supposed to arrive Nov 28 (it's been at the shop since Sept 20) but the dealer tells me they could call him on Nov 27 and tell him it's still not available. I have yelled at the dealer, yelled at 1-800-Ford, and 4 days ago I Twitter-shamed the Ford account and @'d Farley. I got a DM from Ford within 12 hours but that turned out to be a bust, too. "Your dealer and your customer service agent are in a better position to help you than I am." Utterly useless.

I'm considering posting the whole sorry story on the forum here but not sure yet if I want to get that drastic. My father worked for Ford for 30 years in a die-casting plant and then on the Taurus assembly line. I have been a 100% loyal Ford owner my entire life and never felt so screwed by a company as I do now. Just basic communication and customer courtesy is gone. That is at least 50% of my agitation - I get supply chain woes...what I don't get is being treated with disdain by the company that is charging $75-$80K for these vehicles. I work for a software company that sells construction software that one license to run on one PC costs more than a new Mustang Mach 1. If we treated our customers the way I feel like I've been treated, I'd be a seasonal worker at Home Depot by now.

Tomorrows another day to get aggregated ....

It's a known problem. You can Google "2020 F250 transmission" and find all manner of issues and TSBs out on the 10R140 transmission that debuted with the 2020's. It got better in the '21s and seems all but gone with the '22s but they just refused to do a recall and instead are putting all of us 2020 owners through this crap-fest. It's maddening.

I decided to screw it and just go buy a GMC Sierra 2500 but guess what - Ford and GM co-developed the 10R140 and the GMs all have their own issues as well. My dad always said "never buy the first model year of a new vehicle or a major redesign". He would know - he saw two new redesigns on the Taurus line before he retired. I wish I had heeded his advice. I probably wouldn't be afraid of a 2022 or 2023 SuperDuty but they've pissed me off so bad I just don't want to give them any more money.

The missus has already said the 2023 Lincoln Navigator she was planning on buying just turned into an Acura MDX or a Lexus RS350. She makes her own money and buys her own vehicles so there won't be two Fords sitting in the driveway anymore....

It's possible to get warranty work done outside of a dealership, but I think you need to get approval from the dealer and/or ford. Might be something to look into. Also try to read the fine print of any warranty you have.

I have an extended warranty though my Geico insurance, but it wants you to use the dealer for when the vehicle is covered by the factory warranty. Once out of warranty it has been easy to use.

Are dealers really that backed up with work? or is it that only have one guy that is competent at diagnosing things and that individual is that back logged. Or it is the service dept not willing to order parts until a diagnosis has been done and there is a long lead time for parts? I doubt most transmissions need to be torn down to diagnose. Is the service dept doing a rebuild or are they just going to put a new/rebuilt tranny in? You would think with the labor rates that dealers charge they should have an easy time hiring techs, but I guess the labor rate rate only trickles down to the tech and the dealer pockets a major part of it.
This is very good advice. VERY important. We have Ford Premium ESP to 125k miles on my wife’s 2018 Expedition Limited. We have all the extra coverages like LED lights, etc. in that, too. She had a check engine light come on at 74k miles. Two different dealers couldn’t fit her in for months. When she took it in, it had 80,273 miles. We get a call from the service manager that one of the catalytic converters was going bad and needs to be replaced. BUT the Ford warranty only covers power train to 80k miles and we are over that (by 273 miles). Even with the 125k ESP, power train was still only to 80k. We talked, asked about the appointments being delayed, and he acknowledged it AND said he could see via Ford Pass that the problem started months ago AT 74k miles!!!! But sorry, warranty ends at 80k. Ford won’t approve it.

Interesting fact: according to three dealers I called in the greater San Antonio area (Bluebonnet Ford, Red McCombs and Northside Ford) dealer service departments can’t call Ford directly to advocate for the customer. I call Ford customer service and the rep that gives me a case number then gives me a certain number to call to get “approval”. That person had a voicemail that said she’d call me back within one business day. I left voicemails for 8 consecutive business days with no returned call and the service manager then calling me back to tell me Ford closed the request and denied the work.

(1) Get that documented NOW that you have an issue but the dealer can’t “get you in”. Have them document mileage, date, etc.
(2) Know the dealer literally can’t call Ford to get approval. They only have access to a web portal.
(3) Given all this, the value of Ford ESPs is literally falling quickly in my experience. Awesome coverage on ‘most’ things, but months to get in and/or months to wait for parts.

My story ended with us going to an independent mechanic who diagnosed it as bad spark plugs not burning fuel clean. They did a fuel cleaning service, replaced plugs, cleaned cat and had it back to me in a day at 20% the cost the dealer wanted. Been tip top ever since. I’m just disappointed at the current state of these service departments and it devaluing a “premium” extended warranty, at least to a degree.

this is on a 150 truck but when i was driving my BIL's 2021 it would go from 1 to 3 to 5 if not under hard acceleration or in sport mode etc. after 5th was usually 6-7-8-9-10.. so skipping gears is common it appears.

If all else fails, one option is to get an aftermarket 10R140. They start at around $8000. Here is one company, but I am sure there are more.

https://nextgendiesel.com/collection...-transmissions

Not recommending the company, just pointing out another possible solution if Ford cannot deliver.

That’s actually a feature that is supposed to improve overall fuel efficiency. When working correctly, my SD would shift 1-3-5-6-7-9-10 mostly and under lighter acceleration would go 6-8-10. When towing my 7000lb travel trailer in Tow mode, it goes through all gears and downshifting with engine braking gives excellent towing performance without being a diesel. That’s the beauty of the 7.3/10 SP combo. Under heavy acceleration while not towing, my first telltale sign was hesitation from 3-4 or 3-5… like it was trying to decide, but the hesitation generated serious deceleration and throws me forward in the seat. Then the hard upshifts & downshifts appeared, then limp mode.

You might be okay, just be on the lookout for the above behaviors.

I'm sure there others like me not happy...just don't know whats going to happen.
Congrats - you seem to be one of the few people who actually got help from 1-800 FORD. I can’t even get a callback. Southeast region in ATL…

I pushed for a new transmission - the backorder on those is longer than my gasket kit. If you go on Ford.com and try to do a build to order, it says they aren’t taking orders. They’re regulating 2023 production based on parts availability I suppose.
