6,800 Miles.... Powerscope Trailer Tow Mirror is Busted.
Well, time to see how bad the warranty/backorder process is. I noticed this past weekend it was opening significantly slower. Then yesterday it opened half way and then stopped, won't open or close now, and does not lock in correctly. Called the dealership and scheduled a "service" for them to confirm that it's not working. Dec. 1st. What a pain. Gonna have to take time off work 2x to get this fixed even if they don't dick me around.
Your dealership doesn't have evening key drop off?
My dealer will pick up and drop off vehicles in certain cases. You might want to ask if that is an option.
Need a vehicle to get to work. And the dealership is 45 miles one way from home. Work is much closer, but I tried scheduling a pu/do last time, and "they forgot." Then when they did get it they threw a gallon of DEF in the bed (That they also charged me $30 for) instead of filling it. So.... not really in a trusting mood.
I had my mirrors set to auto fold when the doors lock and unlock but after a week they seemed to slow down opening and closing so I turned that off and now I only fold them IF I have to park in a tight spot.
They do fold and unfold at normal speed now but when they were doing it multiple times a day I could see them heading to an early grave. They are just plastic gears.

Had them on my '17, bought it with 30k in '19 and it had just shy of 70k on it when I traded it in, same mirrors with autofold on the entire 40k miles I had it, never was an issue.

I heard all about people setting their truck in "Lincoln" mode and after a week of watching them open and close slower and slower every time I lock and unlock the doors I didnt even look up the replacement cost of the mirrors but I know the LED headlights and the BLIS taillights are more than I paid for my first truck each.
Thats enough for me to just use them sparingly. I had a friend who's 2021 had to go into the dealership recently and they were 3 weeks out for an appointment just to look at the problem their truck is having and they dropped it off first thing in the morning and went back before the service department closed to find out they never got around to looking at the truck cause they are so busy. I dont want to have anything major break during the warranty cause Ford's dealership network sucks big time. Almost as bad as the RV dealerships service departments.
Well, the way I figure it is if they get busted in the parking lot because someone hits them what's the difference. And it's not "Lincoln Mode" anymore in the new ones, it's a standard option in the in-dash settings. No more forscan/plug mods.
Either way, even if the motor burns out they should still lock out or in. This one is no locking at all, making it useless as a tow mirror. And at under 7k miles and 6 months.... unacceptable. Even if the dealer warrantees is (like they should) I suspect It'll be a while before they even get the part. Wish it was at least the driver's side so I could open the window to fix it, not have to park it and get out, lol
Most little problems I will fix myself due to the inconvenience of dealing with a dealer. I specifically didn't want that power mirror option on my truck though, because I did not believe it was robust.
The days of expecting well functioning equipment on your 50-90k truck are well behind us. Junk is becoming the norm.

In the quest for infinite growth you are correct. Ford has noticeably cheapened up quite a bit of stuff and they have never been known for producing quality electronics.

Unfortunately I fear you are correct. They were very robust on my 17, that truck lived it's whole life in northern New England and those mirrors survived 5 NE winters. I was impressed so I paid to have them on my '22. I still like them a lot....when they work. Hopefully it's a fluke. Even without the powerscope fold/telescoping feature Ford still has the best tow mirrors on a pickup. Period.
If stuff this expensive keeps breaking on these trucks I'm going to invest about $20k of the sale of my 2022 F350 back into my 95 F350 and just keep it til the wheels literally fall off. Both trucks have the same amount of rust and the 22 is Aluminum.
I can replace both mirrors for $200. I can get a set of OEM taillights for around $100. Everything is 10x cheaper.

I specifically ordered a 22XL STX so there is as little to go wrong as possible including not having sensors for driver assist features. We have three other vehicles including a fairly expensive Lexus sedan but that thing is build like a tank in Japan and I didn’t mind spending the money for it.
ford used to be known as quite a bit above Rams in build quality but this last generation and 23s… I don’t know…
I've had mine set on auto fold since March and haven't noticed any slowing down of the motor. I do see the benefit of turning it off however, and only folding them when necessary.

Is this something new for 23MY’s? On my 22 “Autofold” is an in-dash option, but “Lincoln Fold” was not and had to be enabled via Forscan.
