That is probably if you use this oil at certain intervals. I dont think it's just one oil change and your good for life.

One needs to view advertisements like this with an eye towards knowing it is NOT as it first appears. Only the most naive or inexperienced people would think a single use would be capable of the claim.

https://www.pennzoil.com/en_us/warranty.html

Here are the warranty terms and conditions.

This is a pretty bold claim none the less. They already know that 95% of Americans aren't going to maintain their vehicles to this level and or save receipts let alone keep good records.

Penzoil would be in trouble with me because I'm one of them who does.

Same here and most likely we'd both face one helluva uphill battle getting Pennzoil to stand by their claims regardless how much support documentation we would provide.

I don't see any inherent problem with the claim: PROTECTS FOR UP TO 15 YEARS OR 500K MILES GUARANTEED*, even without looking at the fine print. Personally, I think they could have guaranteed farther. What does "protect" actually mean here? Lubricate? if changed on intervals that they approve, the oil will lubricate therefore protect, right? Same goes for 750,000 miles . . . or 2,750,000 miles.

. . . but then I read the fine print and pulled this gem out:

YOUR REIMBURSEMENT UNDER THIS PROGRAM WILL NEVER BE MORE THAN QUALIFIED REPAIR EXPENSES. YOU MAY ONLY HAVE ONE (1) CLAIM PER ELIGIBLE VEHICLE UNDER THE PENNZOIL LUBRICATION LIMITED WARRANTY.
So, if you register before 75,000 miles and follow every single rule, they will pay up to $5,000.00 or the value of the vehicle, whichever is less. If you register before 125,000 miles and follow every single rule, they will pay up to $2,500.00 or the value of the vehicle, whichever is less. How much is any car worth at anything over 300,000 miles? . . . and even if the planets align and it is worth over the limiting amount, the $5k/$2.5k limit caps their liability, and the picture gets better for Pennzoil by the minute, as the value of the dollar goes down. Based on the last 15 years, in 2037, $2,500.00 will be worth today's $1,810.00 .

Regardless, they can weasel out with this one:

I can't find a part called a "oil filer" for any car, no matter how hard I try. If you can't change it, they're off the hook, right?

Yes, they published that typo on the internet.

. . . and just in case someone in 2037 needs to see this, here's a capture of the page as it sits today.

It would appear Pennzoil is counting on the American public's assumption their oil will fully and completely prevent any and all engine failures for their claimed 15 years. Someone once said "there's a fool born every moment........" and they weren't wrong.

Yep, I agree. Sometimes I wish there was a law that required the fine print and the claim to be the same size font and side-by-side. Even then, there will be folks that only see the part they want to see.

Yes and we here can't "help" those who are beyond it!

I had forgotten about this thread. Fun to harken back to the good ol' days a year ago!

I checked back in with their terms. It looks like they fixed the typo:
