I had a new ecm installed a few years back, truck runs nice, but when hauling a tailer, it has no power. Before ecm installation it had great power but after waiting 1.5 years for an ecm to be manufactured, i had repalced the truck with a diesel and didnt use it so i was unaware of the power change. Now i nee to use the truck for towing. The purge valve is throwing a code, replaced it but no change. I have considered a "chip" but an unsure if it will fully restore the power. i m not subjet to smog restrictions. truck has 93000 miles. Any ideas?

A “chip” will not resolve any mechanical or electrical issues that are leading to poor performance with your truck. There’s no side-steps for a proper repair.
Hook it up to a laptop and get Forscan to find info on the ecm. Without knowing all the details or codes it will be a guessing game.
I would start with the ecm maybe it is a v8 model? I would check to make sure all coils are firing. Just unplug one at a time and see if the engine changes. If you get two that doesn't change the engine then you are a v8 ecm....
