Fuel Line disconnect tools
Fuel Line disconnect tools
Hi,
I have a 2002 F-250 5.4L and was needing to know the fuel line disconnect tools needed to undo the fuel lines to the gas tank. Is it Metric or SAE? They sell the round disconnect tools that fit over the line and that you pull towards you to disconnect the line. Does it matter which set or do you think these are an "either or sizing" would do it?
Thanks,!!

Should be 3/8" and/or 5/16. The latter is pretty much exactly 8mm, the former closer to 10mm (but not exact)......but I don't think it matters one lick because I'm not aware of Ford going to metric fuel fitting sizing, although I can't speak to 2017+
The best tool might be the OTC 6509 because its unique design allows you to slide into fittings that are very close to right angle bends. It's difficult to explain but the Al scissor tools will often make this problematic or impossible. If you've pulled a pump on an early '90s E-series you know what I'm talking about..... That said the 6509 is longer overall because it's dual-ended so the answer is buy several options/styles. More tools is more better

Just dropped the tank for the second time on the wife's Excursion. I have no problem disconnecting the fuel supply and return quick connect lines utilizing the KD-3321 tool...I believe I utilize the smaller diameter on both lines and the larger takes a little more effort on the bigger supply line for some crazy reason...
I only remove the front strap so that I could slide the tank away from the frame rails allowing me to remove broken pipe and fit in new pipe. I think undoing the tank, lowering it to the ground and trying to fit all that's going on under the truck would have been a trip. PB Blaster, man's best friend. I left the rear strap in place but I did loosen it. Working on a 20 yr old truck you learn to do "no further harm" to nuts and bolts.
I saved about 1.5 hrs by not dropping the tank. I ordered pre bent lines so working it in took some planning. So far everything is good. Next up I have to replace the master cylinder and then fill the line with fluid and bleed them out...
Questions regarding that sketchy Airtex sending unit......Are the lines from the top replaceable? If so where do they connect to once they travel down the frame rail. I forgot to take note. This forum is freaking me out, calling that Airtex a nightmare so I'm going to see about replacing the sending unit. Anyone have a part number for an OEM sending unit and the related connecting fuel lines? Yeah, those are definitely not Ford Approved Fuel Lines.....
By the way.....would you just snug up the fitting to the brake lines? Careful not to tug on them to hard? What's your go-to measure for proper tightened brake line fittings?
