1951 f1 Fan shroud

Is it absolutely necessary to keep the. Fan shroud. No matter what I do I can’t seem to line up the fan. One side keeps rubbing. Might be because I’m using a different manifold and I remember reading somewhere that some manifolds offset the fan a bit. Also how much do I tighten the bolts under the. Radiator. The. Ones with the springs.

Is the rubbing intermittent, like on turns, or constant? Find where it rubs and hammer on the shroud there to make some clearance. It helps to loosen the shroud bolts and push it over a little, too. The shroud's holes are slotted.

Ok. So will do a bit of hammer work and enlarge slots

The radiator support bolts should not be tight at all. All you want is to have slight compression on the springs, find a slot in the castle nut where the hole in the bolt lines up and put a cotter pin in it. It is designed to allow the frame to flex without destroying the sheetmetal, and vice-versa.

I tried adjusting it on my 226 every way besides messing with the spring bolts. It rubbed from about 4-6 o’clock no matter what I tried. It had about 1/4” clearance everywhere else.

I ended up marking the rubbed area, and taking off some material, until I had the same clearance all the way around.
