Air Bag Light Stays On?

On my 1999 F250 my air bag light is staying on. It flashes once then five more times several times then stays on .

From what I have found that is telling me it's code 15. I have seen several error codes in research with code 27 being one of the most common.

My passenger air bag light is working and it does cycle and go out.

I should say recently I added power heated mirrors and tapped into wires under the dash for running light, left and right turn and a power directly do the fuse panel fuse 27 for customer access.

I tested the wires I tapped into for running, left and right turn and they were the correct wires.

I checked the fuses in the fuse panels related to the air bags and they are good.?

No ideas here and don't recall ever seeing a post regarding the air bag but here's a bump for ya.

This may be dumb, but did you check under the driver's seat to see if your AIRBAG electrical connection is secure and connected properly ?
If you somehow disconnected that connection directly under the driver's seat, your air bag light will stay on. Ask me how I know.

Do you get any other codes when you read them with a scanner? There might be some "Bxxxx" codes that can help guide us in addition to that code 15 from the airbag light itself.

From a post out of the thread below:

DTC: Diagnostic trouble code, retrieved using scan tool.
LFC: Lamp fault code, flashed on air bag indicator.
Tone will sound only if additional DTCs are present

Here are the airbag codes

LFC

I checked all the plugs under the drivers seat with no results. Also rechecked the fuses related to the airbag with no results. I removed the heated mirror wire to fuse #27 in the panel with no results.

When I tapped into the main wire harness under the dash according to the Mirror installation instructions I had to remove some factory tape around the harness. After tapping the wires I re-wrapped the harness.. I removed the tape to check the wires I added and gave the wires a little more room. Success! Light is out. All I can think of although I can't see anything maybe when I removed the factory tape I nicked something?

I'm going to leave the 6 inch area where I removed the harness tape free for now.

If problem flares up again I may have to go back in there and examine the wire harness more closely.

I've often wondered what the shelf life is on those airbags and if I should be expecting it to either fail to work in a collision or blow up in my face while going down the road. Almost tempting to remove it and not have to wonder any more.

Glad you got it sorted!

That is a good question, I never heard anything on a shelf life for them. FYI, the 'air bags' are activated with an explosion. There is some sort of explosive container in there that gets lit up when activated by a sensor somewhere up on the bumper. Also FYI, primers and ammo don't seem to have any shelf life restrictions if they're kept dry.
