Ford Engine mechanic - northern Virginia

I need some help for my nephew. He inherited his grandfather’s 1986 F-150 with 300 six. He’s had a local mechanic work on it, but it’s been piecemeal (replaced a few pieces but does not know the engine). I’d like to find someone in his area whose knowledgeable about that engine for a possible rebuild. I’d do the triage, but I’m in central TN. He based out of Fredericksburg, VA.

Unfortunately, the 1986 300 6 was the last year for carb. 87 up were EFI. Mine in my 56 is a 1985- very complicated mixture control carb and computer controlled timing, etc. The 300 is a great engine but the middle 80's, before they figured out EFI was a real mess- same with all the domestic car manufacturers. It will be hard to find someone who knows those year engines. I got a older Carter YF carb and Duraspark distributer and basically made my engine as a 1975 or so 300. Good luck!!
