Mounting an earlier bed on a later truck

Hello again, I have a 1947 ford pickup that i recently bought a real ford bed for, the one i bought is a 38-41 bed, I knew the mounts were slightly different in it and I'm not looking for perfection I just wanted a real ford bed over one of those terrible quality aftermarket ones. The issue I'm running into is I've kind of hit a roadbock with actually mounting the bed to the chassis of my truck. I'm finding it very difficult to actually get it square on the back of the truck on all 4 corners. Does anybody have any advice they could give me? Does someone maybe have pictures of a jig they made to make sure the bed doesn't come out of shape? I'm sure I'm not the only one to have done something like this before, I'm just a little stumped on how to get it on.

Thanks in advance.

My memory is the 38-40 beds are narrower than the 42-47 ones. I don't think the narrow bed will line up with your fenders.

Correct. The '38-40 bed is 46" wide, the '42 and later went to 49". Fenders were changed to accommodate this change.
Physically the bed should bolt to the frame. IIRC, I had a '40 bed bolted on a '46 frame at one point in time. Maybe the OP's bed is just a bit tweaked, a little pushing and pulling to adjust should get it to bolt on.

I did the exact opposite 25 years ago. I put a 47 tonner box on a 38 tonner. I had to narrow it 2 1/2".

The mounts for both are nowhere near each other on the bed and on the frame, also 38-41 has wood that goes between the bed mounts and the frame doesn't the 42-47 not?
