I remember reading about members putting a 5.0 and AOD transmission in a 42 to 47 1/2 ton. I am ready to install my 5.0 and AOD into mine, however can someone who did this swap clue me in on the transmission mount? Did you use the original cross member? What tranny mount did you use? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank You
I've not done this particular swap but know most guys modify the factory cross member to fit the trans. In the past I modified one and recently cut one out for clearance.
One thing I learned and can pass on, the factory crossmember plays an important role in tying the top and bottom of both frame rails together and is best left in place if possible. If it needs to be separated or removed, a new method of tying the rails together is needed, preferably as close to the factory crossmember as possible. The crossmember not only ties the frame rails together but also prevents flex induced by the steering box as well. Good luck!
Hi, i installed a 4.6 litre with aode trans into my 47 half ton . I cut the mount for clearance of the trans and made a mount that bolted in from the bottom and extended it up the sides .Bolted all together , nice and sturdy.
