Sorry if this has been posted here before, but I stumbled upon this the other day and thought it was worth sharing. Pretty interesting info especially around the 44 min mark where they discuss using 15w40 in the 6.7.
new 15w40 in cold temps is problematic due to flow rate issues....but...block heaters mitigate that.
also, I suspect that old 15w40 (oil with a few thousand miles) is less of an issue since the fuel dilution typical to ford diesels will thin the 15w40 out.
also is probably less of an issue if ceramic, boron, or other type of oil additive is used.

I'd say very interesting for sure. Anyone that uses anything other than 5w40 oil should at least watch the 43-47 minute mark of that video and what the machinist says about the crank bearing tolerances. I found the info about how the oil is routed through the upper oil pan to be informative as well. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the video. Very informative. My takeaway is that Ford doesn't designate parts for specific generations of the 6.7, so someone rebuilding a 6.7 needs to be very careful to obtain the right parts for their particular engine.
