Bought a new Bronco Sport a few days ago. I have had occasion to access the inside of the vehicle a number of times to put stuff inside, grab the cell phone I forgot etc. Every time I open the door the fans for cooling the LED headlights turn on and run for an extended period of time. This happens no matter the position of the headlight switch. It has also happened when I close the hood. That was when I had reconnected the plug for the lights after I thought the fans were never going to shut off.
Also upon light acceleration I hear a low whistle like there is a leak in the turbo plumbing. I have an appointment Wed. for the dealer to look at both issues. Comments?
The appointment with the dealer brought this response: The service writer handed me a sheet from Ford that is titled "SSM 49489- 2021 Bronco Sport-Headlamp Cooling Fan Active After Vehicle is Off.
Some 2021 Bronco Sport vehicles may exhibit a condition when the headlamp cooling fan (internal to the headlamp housing) may start or continue to operate for a short time after the vehicle is turned OFF. This is an operating charicteristic of the system to assist with cooling and de-condensation. The fan is designed to shutoff after approximately 10 minutes . Do not attempt diagnosis or repairs or submit a claim for this condition.
The last sentence was underlined by the service writer. What he could not answer was why mine ran for much longer than for longer than 10 minutes. It did throw a code because I had unplugged the lights due to the fan not shutting off.
What I do not understand why, with the lights turned off and the vehicle not being started such as when I opened the door to retrieve my cell phone does the fans run for 10 minutes or more.
We recently bought an air fryer/toaster oven combo and the little internal cooling fan runs for a really long time after we make our toast. I think this is the modern world.
When you open a door, the car probably wakes up and checks the ambient humidity and temperature and runs the fans to get moisture out of the units in the event the lights will be turned on. De-condensation is listed as one of the purposes for the fan running. You live in a humid climate.
I'd say to drive the vehicle and not worry about it. It's under warranty for a long time. Buy one of those little pocket battery/jump units if you are afraid that your battery might get run down.
YoGeorge, You make a point, but it seems to me solution looking for a problem. Never had a problem with the LED lights on our Ranger. Hearing the fans running is annoying to both of us (our garage is part of the house). Oh well.
Tom
Definitely a guess on my part but the prepared response to the issue makes me think that it's a "design feature" and not a flaw. My wife's Subaru Forester runs a vacuum pump on the evap system hours after it's been driven.
See if maybe the fans don't run if you are in low humidity.

Will do, but it has been dry lately and our garage is dry. Time will tell.
Here's an article I found on thermal and moisture management in LED headlights. Sounds like the Bronco Sport starts moving air in advance just in case you might want to operate your headlights. That said, I finished my breakfast PB&J sandwich on toast this morning and went back into the kitchen. The fan was still running in our air fryer/toaster oven...
Yo George, Very educational. I guess I'll stop bitching! Regarding the other issue of hearing a possible air leak in the turbo system, I did not get an answer. I was unable to find any cause myself. Only found two hose clamps which were reasonably tight, I snugged them up a bit more. Maybe the sound is normal, but it is a bit annoying. I'll drive another Sport at some point to make a comparison.
