I am considering purchasing a 1994 F150 4X4 with 94K miles. Is there anything I should watch out for? Assuming proper maintenance, are there problems in the near future.
What engine does the truck have ? See if you can get a vehicle service / repair history . Look for leaks , Cold and warm operation , look at how the tires are wearing , check the condition of the coolant , Its summer , see how the a/c works and look for leaks on the a/c lines . Drive the truck in both 4H & 4L to make sure the transfer case / hubs are working . Just crawl under it and thru looking for anything that may present a major problem down the road .

You should never engage 4wd on the pavement. I have this truck in an extended cab. I really love the truck but feel the 5.0 is a little underpowered there are a few bolt on accessories that can improve on this performance but since youhavent prchased the truck you may want to weigh improving the performance over buying with a bigger engine. But test drive it where you will be driving it. It may have enough power for you. mine has more power than I need in the dirt in 4wd, but really dogs up an inclined or hilly highway especially when the wind is blowing. If the power is marginal for you and you aren't happy with the tires and you want taller tires later this will drag your performance down a little. I have 72k on mine and the bushings in the front need to be replaced now so I can get the front end aligned. Other than that nothing has broken and no work other than general maintenance/service has been done to it. Except for 31.5 inch tires and a k&n air filter mine is stock and averages 17 on the highway and 11 in town, with or without the air on.But like I said I really love this truck and I am willing to spend a couple a hundred every six months or so to Improve performance. A new exhaust system is next, around september.

Well, The 1994 5.0 302 produced 205hp and 275ft/lbs of torque. I would take it to someone who is a mechanic or a car nut, make sure they like Ford. You can tell alot about an engine by removing the plug(when the motors cold) If its possible, take it too a parts store, or the car guru and have them look at the plug, and they should be able to tell you anything like whether the engine is running to thin, to rich, etc etc.
Does the truck feel funny when you drive it? IF it does, question someone who owns a Ford or here.
As far as the engine thing gos, the 302 is a great motor, as were all of the motors. If you don't tow alot, and just use it as a 4x4, the 302 would be perfect, otherwise you might want a 351.
There is alot of things you can do with the 302, there are alot of mods out for that engine.
Another thing that is a problem for 1980-1996 F-150's is the front axle. It is a Dana 44 IFS system, that likes to eat the outside edges of tires. Especially if not aligned properly. Other than that, I can't think of anything that is prone to problems with the 94 F-150s. some people I have talked to haven't had any problems at all. I have a 1989 F-150 302 w/164k that is an excellent truck, but likes to ear the front edges out.
