I think as long as it's from a Diesel it will work. Theres a design split, maybe '02.
As far as programing, I believe it's only for a few higher end options, the truck will still run without programing.
If I remember correctly, the suffix (AB and EB on the ones pictured) are updates of the original part. Most of them are interchangeable.
Everything before that has to match.
Usually the last 2 numbers/digits when changed indicate a part update. Are you changing the fuse box as well or just the GEM? I’d recommend a thorough leak and water intrusion inspection this is a known failure part from water leaking in past the windshield. You can start the repair with a hammer if there’s water entering the cab.
If you get a replacement GEM you will have to get a dealership to program it to your truck.
Why do they need to reprogram it? AFAIK, the GEM doesnt include any security features... it just runs the windows, lights, window wipers and door locks.
