I thought I had a old thread or two but couldn’t find them. But 2015 power stroke deleted and that’s it. Bought a few months back with 220k it started smoking when I let off the throttle on a hard run. Took the turbo off and rebuilt it well because it simply needed it and I figured that’s what was leaking. Cleaned the hell outta everything from the oil. Replaced the Ccv while I was at it just to make sure it wasn’t clogged (wasn’t) but it fixed the smoking. So a few 10k later and some abuse and it’s smoking again. Turbo is still tight, could I have wiped out the intake seal again from having a stock air box? The little plunger is not reaching the yellow let alone the red. Worn shaft or backing plate letting the seal get trashed? I drive it like a grandpa most of the time and haven’t been towing much like in the past. Ccv definitely is spitting some oil you can see the clean run marks on the intake where the oil is getting pulled down. So I’m wondering if the turbo seal is really bad again or the Ccv oil has just built up in spots of the intake and when I get on it and let off the exhaust temp drops enough to not cleanly burn the little oil getting wicked in and starts smoking? Ima take all the charge boots off and intake off today and clean it again and see if it stops if it stop for a couple thousand miles I’m putting a catch can on it. I’m not deleting the Ccv box and doing a rerout I can’t stand the smell. Next option is a catch can I can drain. Anyone else have any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help. Also iv rebuilt quite a few turbos in my past and are still on the road so I’m pretty confident in my turbo rebuild but when I reinstalled the charge wheel it definitely had a sweet spot where it sealed against the oil ring.

thank you for posting that I found every old post and old thread I made for my 7.3 besides the two (I think) on the 6.7 I tried every which way I could think of. I dono if it was glitch or what, normally I can find it no problem. But I appreciate you posting that for everyone.
I’m just stumped as to how the seal is puking again, if it is. The truck does allot of idling compared to most trucks. I do allot of gravel road driving 10mph and under 5 days a week probably a hr worth a day without touching a rd, Thursday and Sunday I trip into town (30miles) to get and drop off my kids so. I’m thinking that oil from the ccv is not getting thrown threw the intake because 70-80% of my driving is idling or very little wind movement driving so when I do get on the road all the oil that has built up and when I do finally get on the truck rolling it starts pulling it in causing the burning oil situation. Only problem I see is loggers and oil field guys do allot of this same kind of driving and not all those guys are complaining about it. But again they could just say hey trucks doing this again bring it to the shop. I personally know quite a few logging companies including the one that works for us and they don’t do nearly the idling or gravel road driving I do but still shouldn’t matter. Thanks for any thoughts or input.
You need to get this truck out and drive the crap out of it. Sounds like crap is building up in the motor. I hope you are changing the oil on time. I would also use full synthetic oil for all the idle and slow driving.

my oil gets changed religiously and I run t6 typically. Right now I’m running t5, everywhere was out of t6 my last oil change I did. I’m **** on maintenance, all my rigs get pampered when I comes to keeping up on them for the most part. I just talked to a couple people and sounds like I may not be driving it hard enough? I’ll try that first, tearing the intake off and boost pipes and intake tube off tonight and will clean the **** out of it all. I’ll see if that does anything for me. If it does then I will drive it harder. If not 1800$ and I’ll have a new turbo from Ford maybe a little less if my favors go threw lol. But I’m not chancing another month worth of no oil to have it fail again. If it is because I’m not driving it hard enough ima kick myself in the ***. I drive like a jack *** normally but after having to work on my last 7.3 so much I have been very very nice to this truck to avoid all the stomach ace from wrenching on them so much.
I drive mine like I stole it. Mostly 80 on the highway. I'm not deleted like you but everybody talks abvout these new 6.7's not likinmg high idle hours and these trucks love to work. I do work mine. Not as mucch since we all got sick but it's coming back and I will be hitting the road again. Diesel here is $4 something a gallon so there's that.
Don't be afraid to stomp on it once in a while the truck can take it. However in your case work up to hammer time. Cleaning things will tell you lots about how the truck is performing.

I don’t let it actually idle very much, I do the normal warm up in the am drive to work which is 2 miles on gravel drive home for lunch, back to work, then back home. Then Thursday after work I drive 40min grab my kids, 40min back home 55-60 normal exceleration. Iv got into it enough to get the “jet” noise out the exhaust maybe 5-6 times the last month maybe. Probably 3 of those times was hauling a 36’ bumper pull travel trailer 50 miles for the mother in law. I live in Oregon so it’s not flat so it does it fair share of down shifting but iv only put it to the floor like stomped it threw the floor once and it’s when it happened the first time. The rest of the time I just drive normal so it don’t break lol. Now my 7.3 that thing would see the fuel limiter at least once every time I drove it. I would bang gears and drive like an a-hole 99% of the time. It took it for 3 years but the last two I spent more time wrenching on it than driving (literally not figuratively) so I stopped driving like that.
I used to tell the gf at the time it’s good for it, it likes to be worked hard… well maybe a happy medium is what I should shoot for lol. But I agree cleaning the intake is going to tell me a great deal on what side of the motor that oil in coming in at. In a way I hope I clean the intake and it still does it. If it don’t im going to feel like a *** hat for not beatin it like I stole it lol.
So, got it all apart (it’s still apart). I’m 99% positive the exhaust seal went **** up again. Guessing I missed something on the shaft and it wiped it out again. Nothing really to speak of, after getting into it I do remember not cleaning the cold side charge pipe because I didn’t take it off the first time. But that being said what I did clean looks pretty dang clean still. it had the normal coating of oil but nothing puddled or excessive by any means. Started the truck with the hot side off just to make sure it wasn’t pushing oil out the compressor outlet. Didn’t see any oil stringing up the turbo or anything. So I continued to tear it apart and found what I initially though was a bunch of oil was a lack of my memory lol. The rest looked like I would expect it would. So any more thoughts before I drop some $ on a turbo?
the 15 turbos are improved over previous years. You shouldn't have any turbo issues. Personally I drive mine like I stole it I have hit the speed limiter a couple times going down hill. It will have no problem going up hill as well. I pull a 34' 5 th wheel and Have had it to 80 more than once. These trucks like to be driven. 2 mile trips are not the best but getting them out and driving them seems to make them work better. Your truck never gets warm in 2 miles and like my truck it takes about 15 miles for the temp to show on the transmission. You need to get that to operating temperature as well. Mine isn't a race truck like youres but I hate following someone that speeds up and slows down. That crap gets on my nerves.
I hope your cleaning effort works. You do need to hammer on it some.

Well I’ll get on it more then, it’s just so damn quick with that auto. It’s almost useless power tell you hook a trailer to it. My old 7.3 made a tinny bit more power than this truck but the zf6 made shifting so slow compared to this tranny and the power is instant on this truck. My small 20’ trailer is down so hauling the crawler around hasn’t been happening, and been penny pinchin lately to get a toy hauler so it’s been a daily mainly. Also the fuel pump screwed up in my work truck and caught my work truck on fire so iv been using my truck for work since beg of July so it’s been seeing allot of that. But once that’s over it will go back to getting the kids on the weekend and towing my junk around on the weekends which should be better for it. Make it happier, I’m yanking the turbo this weekend and will see what it looks like see what’s what. If it chunked it again I’ll buy a new one from Ford with the updated pedestal and water line.
Well new turbo went in two weeks ago I think, much easier and faster the second time around! No more smoking soon as it went in, towed my crawler for the first time with this truck this weekend after my buddies bottom end went in his 19 power stroke fat butt. All I have to say is wow, the difference in the available (instant) power, the tranny brake combined with the exhaust brake is amazing. Just the tow ability with this truck is dumb, almost makes towing idiot proof….. almost.
