I have a friend that has a 96 F350 with the 351 FI. The truck has low mileage but he is sick of replacing exhaust manifolds due to cracking and sick of having exhaust leaks. He want to look into a complete system from the engine back but keeping it legal. He is looking for Headers, aftermarket converters, and a exhaust. I really only see the cat back systems available. Does anyone know where to get headers for this, a cat system and exhaust. He really wants it all changed out and wants to start fresh with a complete new system. Anyone do this or know of anyplace that sells these things, experiences good or bad? He's desperate and wants all the stock componets gone. Thanks
350,
I recently went through the motor on my f350, it has a 351, the only legal headers I was able to find were from ford. they were around 320.00 +- and the quality shows, they are stainless steel whith a thick flange. I left the stock Y pipe on al the way to the cat then went with a 3" pipe from there. All has been good so far. The ford header has 2 emmision inlets on the passenger side one on the front and one in the rear. they also provide a plug to close the one you don't use. I beleave but am not certain that Banks makes a system also. A good contact for parts and advise is www.fordpowertrain.com hope this helps
Thanks Frankenstein. $320 isn't bad considering the price he got was around $500. I'll have to tell him to look into that. He doesn't want any of the stock componets there so he is going to have to have the rest made up it appears because no one makes a complete kit. He got a quote of like $1400 for a system to be made up. His thing is he doesn't want to use the stock Y pipe or anything. He plans of getting aftermarket converters and mufflers. I guess that there is no easy solution. Thanks for the tip, I'll fill him in.
This is in regards to my 88 F-150 but I'm sure you may be interested.
I had a major loss of power and blew out my air injection pipe after both manifolds cracked. The truck was diagnosed as having a partially clogged cat or cats. I was quoted over $2000 for the replacement original. I laughed at the dealer and this is what I did.
1. Removed the horribly designed two cat pipe off the truck.
2. Went to my local parts store and asked to see the Catco catalog.
3. Bought Pipe-kit PK-4 for $72.
4. Ordered a universal cat for $80 from JC Whitney (3"in and 3" out)
5. Ordered Summit Truck headers to replace the manifolds.
6. Bought a 2.5" to 3" adapter since the pipe kit is 2.5".
7. Bolted it on the truck and drove to the local custom muffler shop.
8. Had them weld up the cat, pipe kit, and adapter and add a 3" cat back system for $250.
9. I pick the truck up tomorrow for a total outlay of $562 for a complete exhaust from the manifolds back.
10. After driving with the pipekit and cat on, the 302 just came alive and pulled hard up to 4500rpm. Where before, it ran out of breath at 3000rpm. I can't wait to drive her.
since its a 1 ton, he dont have emissions, so why worry about it? just buy some good headers from hedman (they have em to fit pretty much anything)
then go to an exhaust shopt and get em to weld up a system without cats...true duals or two into one..i personally like the sound of true duals, whichever u prfer, the exhaust shop could charge anywhere between 120 to 350 bucks, depending on the pipe size, duals or single, mufflers u use, and where u route the exhaust out at, also what kinda shop it is(if its a big chain like meinike or sumthin it will prolly cost more, and not we welded up, a good small town kinda shop will usually be cheaper, faster , friendlier and have better service)....i got my true 2 1/4 duals from the manifolds out the back with 18 inch glasspacks, no cats, and 3x18 inch chrome angle cut tips out the back for 190 bucks

on a quiet night your can hear the chevys rusting away
I agree with 85351HO. If you don't need cats, then just have a custom system welded up. If you go single, don't go smaller than 2.5", I recommend 3". If you go true duals then be sure they add an h-pipe if it's in your budget.
Later.

BTW-The 3" is awesome, I had him put a 3" muffler on it and its quiet as a mouse. Now I gotta work on the suspension.
