when i try to start my bronco, it will crank over for a second and then there will be a loud winding sound and it will stop cranking. this may happen around 5 times before it will start and stay running. sometimes i can have it running for a few minutes and it will be warm and i will turn it off and when i try to restart, it does the same thing. i always pump the gas pedal when it is cold to get it primed, and even sometimes after it has been running for a while, it will make a loud winding sound and stop cranking when i try to restart. i end up getting mad and cranking it over a few times while i have the gas pedal floored and finally it will kick over.
it does not like to start up once it is turned off.
can someone please help me?

Your starter bendix is shot. It is kicking out when the engine tries to start. eventually you will be left stranded somewhere. Replace the starter.
Jimmy
also root cause to your problem could be a weak battery
load test it
if it was weak it probably killed your starter... and has damaged the starter solenoid. replace all 3 unless you like sitting on the side of the road waiting for crack heads to get ya
