Truck started doing something odd today. Truck starts and idles at 2,000 rpms then 1,500. Stays there for a couple of minutes. Then drops down to 1,000. After about 5 minutes of idling at 1,000, it finally drops down to normal at 750 rpms. Normally it starts out at 1,500 after about 30 seconds, drops to 1,000, then after about a minute drops to 750. Also, if I put it in gear when it's doing it's weird idling, it stalls. I try to restart it. It won't. It will start after about 30 seconds to a minute of pumping the gas pedal, while holding the key. Tested the starter. It is fine. It also has the starting problem if I shut the truck off and then try to start it within 10 mins. All of this never happened before. I just got a new battery, new alternator, and the started was tested and found to be good. Fuel pressure was tested and was good. Any suggestions?
1st thing, what year and engine ( I've haven't been following your threads)
2nd thing, check and pull codes.
3rd, does it do this from cold start, or hot start?
4th, when you turn the key to on, not start, does the CEL illuminate?
5th, any other mods or part swapping to the Igntion system? These are what we call (HARD) parts as they are crucial to ignition, starting, and running. Anything besides OEM Motorcraft are known failures, such would be Ignition Coil, Fender-Mounted relay, TFI Module for PIP, STATOR aka PIP in distributor.
No start, erratic idle is a walk down the Rabbit hole, and it could be something completely small to a plethora of issues.

1. 1995 5.0L.
2. There is no CEL that stays on. I will have to check for other codes.
3. Both. Seems to do it whenever it wants to. It does it most of the time, not all the time. It does it whether on the front tor back tank.
4. Yes. It also illuminates when it stalls in gear.
5. Motorcraft plugs anf wires. Aftermarket cap and rotor. Aftermarket MAF. Unknown date on coil. Newer IAC. I cleaned a couple of months ago. Newer TPS. New battery, new alternator. The only mod that was done before the starting issue, was the electric fan/aluminum radiator setup. That was done a couple of weeks ago. (The bigger alternator was done just after the intermittent starting problem.)
Started it a couple of times this morning. Still has the same issue. It seems to be doing it more an more. I noticed that the computer can't seem to figure out what speed to idle at. It is all over the place. Once it is warmed up, it finally settles to 750.
Try unplugging TPS or MAF and see if you get a System Pass code.
I have seen a System Pass code with a failed PCM on my '92 300. All it showed in KOER was 311. But truck got worse day after day. No codes either except for 311.

I took of the vacuum line on the FPR and no fuel was coming out. I will have to check the codes again with one or both of those unplugged
