1988 Fuel Supply @ startup. HELP !!!
Engine will start (and idle) with starter fluid/gas sprayed into throttle body, but not using basic startup methods i.e. it's own fuel system.
It runs off the middle tank, not the rear tank. I repaired middle tank and its pump. the rear does not work anymore.
cleaned out tank thoroughly and used seafoam. currently has fresh 93 octane in the tank.
at the fuel rail Schrader valve, i am getting 50 psi with key in ignition, during crank, and once running. no drop.
replaced fuel pressure regulator, verified the ECM relay is functional, fuel injectors have power. everything seems to work regarding fuel system, but still cannot verify what is causing the no start!
also took apart the distributor and cleaned up the contact points. double checked the firing order of the plugs was correlating to pistons 1,5,3,6,2,4
It has to be a fuel problem, not a spark problem.
Based on the fact that the engine starts up on starter fluid spray and runs forever at idle on it's own fuel system..... right?
Other symptoms include:
as stated before, it runs at idle but if I yank on the throttle cable, it bogs down and surges. so it runs well when not under load, but with normal acceleration it does not run properly.
I have checked for vacuum leaks using carb cleaner spray during idle. nothing found. I ripped out all the smog equipment earlier except the smog pump on the pulley. If i remember correctly, it started fine on its own before i ripped it all out so part of me thinks that is the issue.
