What mileage do you get?

I just bought a used 2016 F350 4x4 6.7 diesel. I'm only getting 10 - 12 mpg. driving around town. Have not had it on the highway yet. Is this normal?

Yesterday I filled up and the truck said 12.9 mpg. Hand calculated it was 13.84 mpg. But this is still winter fuel. This is a mix of hills out where I live, country roads with few stops, expressway driving to city where I work then 3 or 4 miles in city until work.

Once summer fuel arrives, I'll average at least 15 mpg. On the highway on road trips, at least 18 mpg depending on my average speeds. I have the 3.55 gears.

My trip meter says 11.2 around town. Hand calcluated average on in town driving I'm getting between 11 and 12 mpg. This is speeds no higher than 40 mph on my commute.

On the highway I see anywhere from 14 to 17 unloaded. Best ever was shy of 18 going 70 mph. If I can get a long run without a regen is better, Trips with a regen will drop a fair bit.

3.55 Rear end as well.

Your mpgs sound pretty normal assuming its in town stop and go driving.

2020 F250 CCSB 4x4.

Best is 22.1mpg 90% highway, unloaded.

Worst is 17.8mpg 50/50 highway/city, unloaded.

Average is 19.9mpg, mostly highway unloaded. Truck only has ~5k miles.

Mileage is hand-calculated dividing the trip odometer by the gallons of diesel pumped. No DEF added, to date.

All stock with the factory optional 275/70r18 Goodrich A/T tires. I'm easy on the throttle and cruise between 65-75 on the highway but I make sure to give her at least one solid throttle stomp every time I drive to clear out any cobwebs

"Regen" is short for regeneration. Regens are when the ECM commands the fuel injectors to fire on the exhaust cycle of each cylinder to get the temps inside the DPF hot so it can burn off the soot. I'm sure others will answer and give more detail than me.

There are 3 types of regens; an active regen that the ECM commands when the DPF fills up and the DPF sensor reads higher pressure due to the soot build up in the DPF. Another type of regen is a passive regen and that happens when the temperature in the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) gets up to at least 472 degrees F. That allows the soot on the catalyst or whatever is in there to burn off, but it does create ash which is why the DPF has to be replaced or cleaned depending on the truck. The third regen is a manual regen commanded by the factory software (IDS) by a factory tech, or by FORscan depending what year the truck.

I hear for the newer trucks, you can turn off the auto-regen feature so the truck can go past 500 miles.

Stop your bragging...

Welcome to the forum. Those 10 speed transmissions are doing wonders for mileage I'm sure.

That's not fair you have 4 more gears than the rest of us.

I get 13 around town if I don't pull anything but I always pull at least 6k around town so I get 10mpg most of the time. I get about 10mpg pulling a 8k camper on the hwy as well. I don't know how to go slow, 70-75mph is the sweet spot to prevent getting stuck behind them big rigs.

with 10 gears:

I can get 17 unloaded if I ever drive that way
As low as 9.5 but usually around 10-12 with heavy towing.

I'd say your is normal for your driving.

Mine is not a commuter or city driving truck so don't think I would do any better in that environment.

Currently on my 4th 6.7L truck, ( 2011, 2015, 2017 and now 2020) I can say daily driving is around 14, Towing is 10.5-11 and empty hiway cruising is usually around 18.

My 2020 has gotten better, I suspect because of the 10 speed. I've had a couple tows hit 12 and I got a 22 mpg hiway trip at 70 mph and really really babying it across pretty flat terrain.

How your truck is set up will make a big difference. Bigger than stock tires, lift/leveled, and what rear end you have
My trucks are usually leveled running LT295 tires with a 3:55 rear end.

I just returned from a trip to Florida from KY. I drove 1685 miles, averaged 18.7 mpg. And had 2 Regens. I was impressed. This is the best it has done so far. 2019 F250 CCSB. 13,800 Miles on it now. It finally broke in.

80mph and no boost? Is it being pulled with a tow truck?

Nice!

Mine will also hit 23/24 on the computer but once I calculate actual MPG, the computer is usually about 1-2 mpg ambitious.
