Need hitch receiver and bike rack for 2017 Escape
I'm gonna help her out with the install. I can't weld so I want recommendations for a class 3 hitch that's bolt on. Rather not have to move the muffler or anything like that.
For the bike rack she needs one that can fit at least two bikes when it's just her and our daughter. And is big enough she doesn't have to loosen the handlebars to make the bikes fit.
It would also be easier for her if she could leave the rack on during the summer months but still be able to open the rear window.
And something that's easy to use, doesn't require tools to fasten the bikes, no fasteners to get lost.
I did NOT have to move the muffler, but I did loosen the bolts holding it in place in order to get the hitch up there. It was 100% bolt on with no welding involved. Etrailer has some good videos on how to install it if you want to look for that part number. There are several more to choose from, but I wanted something sturdy and concealed.
I cannot help on the bike rack, my apologies. I would look at something expensive rather than something cheap for the bike rack though. They can and will fail if they are cheaply made. It is not guaranteed, but consider the force and leverage those things have on the horizontal support as they are bouncing going down the road. You can get some that fold down easily to allow for access to the back as well.
A lot of choices, you just need to figure out which way you like to go.
