I own a 2000 X, and I bought it with a 4" lift in place. I was not real happy with the ride so I started doing research on the internet and found this place. I determined that the truck had a 4" spring in front and , 5" block under the stock 2" block in back with sometype of overload spring. the rear springs were sagging about 1" on driverside and 1.5" on passenger side.
I started all over and ordered a BDS 8" all spring kit with trac bar bracket and pitarm. Kit went in real smooth other then some small things like having to grind down the spring locator bolts to locate in the rear upper U bolt plates. THe pit arm came off hard also. The ride is much better then what I had, I belive largely due to the fact that the rear springs had no movement left as they were only about 1" from the snubbers on the overload springs that were installed. this caused the rear of the truck to ride real harsh. The truck also has 2 Rancho 9000's at each corner, they were on there and yes the front are going to be replaced as they are about 1.5" from max extension at ride height. So far on the pavement have felt them restrict the truck but any off road and they will so in spring I'll get new shocks.
Just posting my comments on this lift for information to anyone
thinking of lifting there X. Right now I have 35 x 12.50 on factory Lariat wheels. I just picked up some Eagle 16.5 x 12 for the spring. I plan to run Kevlar Fun Countries iehter 36 x 14.5 or 38 x 15.5 I here they wear like steel on the street. Thanks for all the help and info this is a great site. Rizzo.....
First of all, welcome to the forum! There are a lot of knowledgeable folks here. If you've got a problem, it's pretty darn certain one of us have had the same headache.
Second, I'm not sure what type of information you're seeking. But an 8" lift is quite a lot. I'm a little more conservative, and just ordered a 2-1/2" lift kit ... just enough to clear some slightly larger, 33" dia. tires.
I wasn't seeking information with the post, I was simply posting my experience with the install of the BDS kit for anyone who might being thinking of using one.
I have digital photos of the truck at my brothers, and I hope to post them this weekend when I am at his place...Rizzo....
Be careful on your tire choice. Dick Cepek tires typically don't have the load rating (10 ply) you'll need. I put a set of 37"x12.5" PJs (10ply) on 16"x10" rims on an '03 Ex and the sidewall give is substantial even when aired up to 40psi. I currently run them at 37psi so the tread makes complete contact with the pavement. The Ex doesn't have alot of wheelbase to aid stability like a 4door long-bed SD, so you'll want a tire with sidewall strength. Just a little info. to help you in your choice.
These tires show a max load rating of 3415, and several guys run them on SD here in town they claim the Kevlars wear like iron on the streets. The link was to Nation Tire And Wheel I am going with the Kevlar fun countries probally 36 / 16.5 / 16.5 I have a set of 16.5 x 12 eagles right now.....
