My F250 just hit 85K miles and the check engine light came on. I was towing a boat and the speed was limited, cruise control wouldn't hold speed and a exhaust filter indicator went on.
Shortly after the DEF indicator did the countdown and then disappeared at about 200 miles left.
Check engine is still on and local dealership says the DEF heater went and the tank needs to be replaced.
Almost $1800.00 repair seems ridiculous for something like this?
Any thoughts?
If you have ford pass, check to see if you are still under warrenty for the def heater, several are.
You can also replace it yourself for a lot less. This is not an $1800 repair. The part alone is not that much and all that is needed is to drop the def tank.
The 17 version is twice that of the 11-16's.......still not $1800 worth. And why are dealers suggesting an entire assembly replacement? Are they lazy and don't want to disassemble the heater or maybe they are being proactive that the pump is going fail next? Adding all the component costs together for that model is less than $900 https://parts.autonationfordwhitebea...ump-hc3z5j229b
