So I took my 2015 F350 6.7 into the dealership with what I thought was a small (oil?) leak. After testing, they said it was actually a small fuel leak and the fuel line needed to be replaced. They did that (fortunately under extended warranty)...parked it overnight...and found a "gas smell" in the morning. THEN they called back and said it was actually the fuel cooler that was the problem...something about where the gas line joined the cooler and being unable to tell which part was bad.
As you might be able to tell, I can barely describe the problem and am for sure no diesel mechanic (I do OK with my tractor, but that's it)!
Does what the dealership told me even make sense? I get that there must be an opening in the cooler for the fuel line and a seal between them. But it makes no sense to me that an experienced mechanic can't tell which part is leaking. Or am I wrong in this?
It could be the one of fittings on one of the fuel lines going into the fuel cooler.
This is the fuel cooler.
The fittings look like the end of this fitting, but this fitting is for the 11 to 16 fuel filter in the engine bay.
The two Dorman fittings are the style that you would be looking for. Let me look around. I remember seeing a kit for fuel line repair for this type of thing.
I'm no Ford tech but this sounds like what it may be. Just using the KISS theory. Good luck.
OK - thanks. I see that there are quite a few spots a leak "could" be coming from, so isolating to one might be tricky. I'd still think an experienced tech would be able to do that - well, at least I'd hope they could!!
