588 miles. New engine.

Truck threw a check engine light with 588 miles. It's been in the shop almost a week. Apparently no oil pressure in cylinders 6 and 7 now. For whatever reason, it's eaten a couple of lifters. Dealer has requested a new engine. I took it on a trip right after I bought it (350 miles) and I thought that gas mileage wasn't where it should be... I was right. meh.

That's a real shame. I'm glad the dealer is replacing the engine. I hope Ford (corporate) requests the old engine for analysis, to determine root cause and extent of the issue across all the 7.3 engines. Do you have a time estimate when you can get a new engine? I don't mind if they delay my 7.3 build for a day or so to get you one ASAP!

Check the link in post one regarding the build dates involved. Might be one of those:

interesting - thanks - Mine has a blend date of late June but who knows what the engine assembly date was. Sur3 sounds like something similar.

Sorry about your troubles. There are definitely some kinks in the manufacturing process on these 7.3s and 10 speeds, but hopefully the design is sound and they will be reliable. I took a big risk buying a truck with a 1st year engine and trans but had to have that Tremor pkg so here I am. So far so good with mine but you never know, good luck with everything on your truck.

Thanks - truck will be fine - ha! Knowing that this is a first-year engine in the SD series, for the first time in my life I bought the Ford extended warranty. I thought it was possible there might be a power plant issue down the road... who knew it'd only be 588 miles down the road? lol.

My brother-in-law bought a brand-new Jeep Grand Cherokee when they first came out. Went 700 miles and threw a rod. They pulled one off the assembly line to ship, replaced it, and the damn thing ran for over 300K miles. And it was a "salesman's" car for the business, so it never left the warehouse without a good load of marine parts in it. The last 150K miles or so were "pour more oil in it, it leaks out so fast it'll change itself", but you get the idea

Well it's on its way in. Hopefully Monday I'll have it back in my hands.

I hope that this one works better for you!

I must say I've never seen a tech wearing cuff links and torquing on an engine before.

LOL pretty sure he's either the service manager or some other guy up the pole. He's a little clean for working in the shop. Wonder if has figured out what that click noise is every time he cranks on that bolt?

I wonder if Ford will give you a 100k Premium warranty for all your trouble.

Is it really necessary to remove the cab to replace the 7.3 engine or is this just SOP for all super duty engine replacements?
