Oil pressure gage goes up when I turn the key on

Do all these trucks do that?

as soon as I turn the key on the oil pressure gage goes up to the normal range and stays in the same spot all the time.

Years ago, Ford went to a dummy oil pressure gauge. The gauge would read in the middle of the "normal" range as soon as the oil pressure hit 6 psi. As long as there was 6 psi, the gauge would not move. There are reasons for this, which I will not go into.

Sounds like maybe Ford is doing this again.

Doesn’t bother me if it’s normal.

The truck can do whatever it wants as long as it goes when I put ‘er in D and stomp on it!

Primarily because of yoehoes who couldn't understand why their oil pressure dropped at a stoplight as compared to on the road . . . . .

Exactly. People would see the needle go up and down or seem to move differently from one day to the next and became convinced the engine had an issue. Made all kinds of warranty claims.

You still see this today. Just look at all the "Is this normal" postings regarding pressure, temps, etc.

Exactly. As long as the light is not on, then I could care less.

I get bored on long trips, but not bored enough to watch my needle move around.

So if you do in fact have an oil pressure issue then the computer sends an alert to the instrument panel to advise?

If the CPU turns on the oil pressure light, then yes, you have an issue. It might not be too little (or too much) oil pressure, but a bad sensor.

But fretting over whether the gauge is at the bottom of the operating range or at the top is not worth your time.
