oil pressure

I have an 89 5.0 Bronco and want to know how the oil pressure gauge works. Specifically, how many pounds of pressure are there when the gauge reads in the normal range. I had noticed that the gauge on mine had been dropping slowly, so i put in some dura lube and Maxlife oil. The gauge now reads on the 'o'. Did the stuff i use boost the pressure back up? Or is my gauge playing games with me?

thanks,
tom

oil pressure

A few years ago I had a '87 with slowly dropping oil pressure. I added a quart of Duralube to a fresh oil change. The pressure immediately rose to a normal reading and stayed there even after many oil changes.
I have read report after report that the oil additives do NO good but the proof for me was in the pressure gauge!
