Hey everyone, starting at between 10-30 mph, my Navigator sounds like an old tractor, or a bicycle with a card in the spokes, and does it no matter how fast I go above that speed, but NEVER does it when it's sitting still. Only does it occasionally, so the shop can't replicate the sound. Seems to do it more on warm days, but the Navigator never has a temperature issue, gauge always stays flat. The functionality and driveability do not change at all, it just makes this sound. Any ideas? I posted the YouTube link below so you can hear it. Thanks. Kevin
Kinda sounds like an exhaust manifold leak on the driver's side ? Does it go away if you let your foot off the gas ?
It only goes away below a certain speed, regardless of whether I’m on or off the gas. That makes me think it’s not the exhaust manifold. Thanks though. Kevin
Texted the video to my mechanic, he said it's either a bad 4x4 actuator, or a leak in the vacuum line to the actuator. First mechanic said don't bother texting him, it's impossible to tell from a video. Texted it to another mechanic and he knew what it was right away. Thanks everyone! Kevin
It almost sounds like a piece of the heat shield is hitting the drive shaft.... Let us know the final verdict when you get it back from the shop. I'm curious now.
It's been repaired, here's the final message from the mechanic: "The issue is the driver's side 4wd actuator. That will need to be replaced. Also the driver wheel bearing assembly will also need to be replaced. The slipping actuator has rounded the teeth of both the wheel bearing and actuator." Total repair for parts and labor was $450. Just wanted to leave it all here in case it can help someone else in the future. Kevin
