2004 ford expedition horrible noise coming from wheel I believe
So I have a noise that sounds like its coming from my front wheel. It's not a hum it sounds almost like a bike with a card in the spokes. I've looked there's nothing in the wheel. It is 4x4 idk if maybe my actuators are going out. My CV axles spin while driving in 2wd and Idk if they are supposed to be or not. 4x4 does work last I used it. With the noise it's making I don't want to engage it and it not disengage. When it was on a scanner last I remember it had a fault code of some sort in the 4x4 system. There's a slight hum but I know it's not the wheel bearing I was thinking it's my tires but now I'm not to sure. When it stops making the noise it almost sounds like it grabbed like a slipping clutch or something like that.
I'm pretty sure it was being caused by a vacuum leak I found and fixed because now it's not doing it but I'm thinking it was actuators trying to activate 4x4 since it was losing vacuum.

Yes that sounds like a strong possibility assuming the hubs were only partially engaging due to a vacuum leak. Good find!
