Took my truck over scales today and without me in it with a full tank of gas it tipped at 3840 #s
Is it the yellow paint that makes my truck look fat ???
how's that for an average weight
j
Good thing your truck does't talk. It might go something like this. Truck..... "John, do you think this Yellow paint makes my fenders look fat?" You.....
If you were worried about weight, you shouda stuck a 302 in her instead of that fat block 460.
Hey Wayne, coming back from the scales I put my foot in it... and I'm glad it's a 460... pushed my right back in the seat and held me there... nice feeling.

I'm surprised these trucks are so heavy. Doesn't seem to be much there compared to the big boats of the 70's. ( door I beams, big bumpers, etc) I remember my 70 Vista Cruiser had a title weight of 4700 lbs and I could believe that! It was all 2 guys could do to lift the tailgate alone! I would have guessed a 53-56 f 100 stock would have been under 3000 lbs, but that must be wrong....
My 50 F1 with a 289 and C4 auto trans installed was right at 3000 pounds on the scale. The flathead might have weighed a little bit more. The Y-block definitely is heavier. 3000-3400 is about typical for a stock 48-56 truck. When you go adding big block engines and fancy interiors, sound deadening, etc., that pushes the weight up a bit. John's truck also adds mechanism for a tilt front end, so there's a couple more pounds. Not surprised his hits the 3800 mark.
