Question oil life

I have a 2019 F250 6.7 Had 1st oil changed by dealer (free) at 5100 miles and oil life showed 90% . Now I'm at 10,100 oil life shows 56% My question should i go by my old rule of every 5k (on my 7.3 i did) Hard to break the old habit of every 5k. Or is the oil life monitor more accurate? I have the ford Motorcraft oil and filter to use as well. I'm sure the dealer used the Motorcraft oil too just bulk supply. I'm getting itchy since I am at 5k mark ... thanks

I changed the oil on my 2019 at 4K and just changed it again at 9500 miles. My 7.3 I had for 12 years and changed oil like you at about every 5k miles. I am going to stick with every 5K just to help this engine last. Just my .02. Enjoy, the 6.7 makes the 7.3 feel like a snail! Lol

Oil life change notice on my 2015 comes on at 7000 to 7500 miles. I change at 10k. 175k on the truck, no issues. Use rotella 5w40 and motorcraft filter

It really depends on how you use your truck and how long you intent to keep it. Do you tow with it? Do you use biodiesel? Do you do a lot of stop and go driving? If so you should be following the severe duty maintenance schedule which is every 5k.

Many follow the IOLM and make out just fine. I follow the severe duty recommendations from Ford and all of my UOA samples come back great. I did have one come back with excessive fuel dilution in the oil. For that very reason alone I would not run any 6.7l engine with the emission components intact past 5k unless all I was doing was towing on the interstate.

Next oil change, send a sample off to blackstone labs for an UOA. They will give you good info and change intervals. For me, they recommended 9k miles, though I change around 7500.

I wait for the truck to tell me when to change the oil. The computer has the ability to determine how I use the truck and what is the best time to change the oil. I only run full synthetic oil in my cars. All 5 of them. I can't believe how guys worry about when to change there oil but Motorcraft oil is to expensive. I never have to worry about if it's the right oil. There is no way I would risk my motor on anything else. The 6.7 is not old school like all other Ford diesels that needed lots of stuff to make them good or better like they should have been built. I tow with my truck and I never worry about the oil I put in my truck. I also have the dealer change it. I buy my oil from the parts guy and and tell them it's in the back. Way better price that way.

I let the OLM tell me when to change the oil. I also have a driving routine that keeps my emissions happy. I usually have a regen every 430 miles at the minimum. It just depends on how much local road driving I do, by that I mean flat and under 60 mph and more city driving. I live in a hilly area and take an expressway to and from work. So my last one was 483 miles out and only lasted 8 miles long because I reached work. It went from a high of 84.4% to 48.7% in the parking lot. But yet the prior regen to this one was 250 miles out and lasted 29.5 miles, my longest yet since I started keeping track. The reason I bring this all up is like what dirthawg alluded to, that you have to mindful of the regens and how many you have because of the fuel that makes it past the rings and into the oil. My regens usually always complete and I'm on the expressway climbing hills and doing at least 65mph. I will be getting another one soon because my last regen did not complete.

My last oil change, which was about 1750 miles ago, I could not remove my spin on bypass oil filter. I tried wrapping a leather belt around it and she wouldn't budge. I know, I know... too tight with the hand tightening. Anyways, I am going to change the oil early at 6k miles because of the old oil left in the bypass filter. I also used LubeGard's Bio Tech HD oil additive again. I'll have it analyzed by Blackstone again.

And about when you reached your destination during an active regen. Place the truck in park and 30 seconds to a minute it will shut off. Let the truck idle a few minutes at least to allow the extra fuel in the right cylinder bank to be either burned off or sent to the exhaust so it doesn't make it's way into the oil. Another reason you want the regen to stop, is that if you don't, the injectors will continue to drip fuel and that will leak past the rings and into the oil. I always let my truck idle some even without an active regen if it needs it when EGT14 which I label as EGT1 is above 400 degrees. I like it to get under 400 because I don't want the oil coking up in the turbo.

Lots of guys here change at 5k miles. Some let the truck tell them when to change. It depends on how you use it like dirt said. If you are OCD like some of us here, get a way to monitor the PIDS like the EGT temps, REGEN status, fuel pressure, OLM %, etc. Don't be afraid to ask. Take it easy.

I used to do 5k when the truck was a driveway queen. Now that it's a dd i do 6k. I can't mentally let it go longer than that. I do sample and samples say it could go longer. But at 6k I do it 2x a year and I'm ok with that. Only ever had 1 sample with dilution which was a stupid cold winter for us with an infant. It idled a lot more than normal. Since then got an edge CTS, lock out 6th anywhere but on the highway and use tow haul all the time. 2.5 years and never had fuel dilution again.

x2. The 6R140 shifts way too quick and lets the engine lug...

I have also started to lock our 6th when just doing around town driving, i'm hoping it will also help with re-gen frequency.

What by-pass system are you running? I've been looking into those recently.
