Regretfully I cannot find the answer to this anywhere else: for the 2018-current F250 GAS models, does Ford offer an extended gas tank option from the factory, without having the dealership or aftermarket place install it?
Much thanks.
The thing that irritates me is how Ford only markets certain things that have a lot of interchangeability, but act as if things are impossible ...
Case in point, the fuel capacity.
In the 2017-2019 trucks, either a CCSB or SCLB both get a 34 gallon tank; no options.
But if you get a Chassis Cab, you can get a 40 gallon tank. https://www.ford.com/commercial-truc...odels/f350-xl/ (see Specifications; Vehicle highlights; fuel capacity)
Why can't I get that 40 gallon tank as an option on my fully built SCLB F-250? Why is only the F350 and up Chassis Cab available with that 40 gallon unit? Clearly it fits the truck frame, and they've allowed for the volume difference in the various emissions controls and ECM to accommodate that change. And yet you ask a dealer if a larger tank is available, and they say "no". But it's not because one does not exist; it's because Ford does not "option" it to the "normal" trucks.
Unfortunately, you're not going to even find a dealer or aftermarket option available for a gasser. This post kind of sums up an earlier conversation I was in on this topic (follow the arrow in the quote to see the whole thread):

So, I just called Titan at the number on that page you linked to. The guy I got ahold of was awesome and told it like it is. Here's the skinny:
No one will go larger for a gasoline tank because it's illegal. Would require modifying the EVAP system, fuel pump ratio, and other things. Modifying an EVAP system after the fact is illegal. He said you can sometimes order a truck new and if it's specifically built from the factory that way, you can sometimes do it. Otherwise, us gas guys are stuck with the factory-sized tank.
So, yeah, if you get a gasser, you're stuck with the tank you have.
Then order a chassis cab if you want the 40 gallon tank. The frames between the chassis cabs and pickups are not the same from the cab back. This applies to both SRW and DRW so the 40 gallon chassis cab tank will not fit the pickups. So when the dealer tells you there is no option they are lot lying to you.

I guess I see your point ... the frames in the CC are available in many different CA lengths.
But my point is still valid; the "normal" F-250/F-350 frame allows for the diesel application to have a 34 gallon tank PLUS the DEF tank sitting in front of the diesel tank. In the same truck, with the gas 6.2L, that same 34 gallon capacity has several cubic feet of empty space where the DEF tank would be taking up space.
I guess I should have been more specific in my complaint. Ford offers a larger tank (40 gallons) in the many different wheelbase configurations in the Chassis Cab models. A few of those CC models have the same general wheelbase as a "normal" SCLB or CCSB. So the space is available and a larger tank does exist. While it's true to say the frames are different between the "normal" trucks and CC trucks, they are typically different in that they have some different accommodations for mounting points, capacities, etc. The Chassis Cab models still have both gas and diesel options, and that means they must make room for the DEF tanks. If Ford can fit a diesel tank and it's DEF mate under the normal truck AND the CC trucks, and you can get a 40 gallon tank under the CC trucks, how is it Ford cannot reason to find that the same cubic void that exists for the DEF tanks can be occupied by the larger 40 gallon tank in the normal trucks? My SCLB has well more than enough room for that 40 gallon tank to fit; I've been under several normal and CC trucks with a measuring tape - I know it would fit.
What is the capacity of the DEF tank? Would that space really buy you that much more capacity? (Just asking . . . don't know). It might not have been deemed worthwhile if the gain is low and there is extra expense associated with different fuel tanks depending on diesel or gas.
Probably no help to you but the spec sheet for the 2020's shows the 6.2 and 7.3 gets a 48 gallon tank in the crew cab. It does not specify whether it is for long or short beds. It does specify that the diesel gets a 34 with the short and a 48 with the long bed. My interpretation is both lengths in the gas version crew cabs will have the 48 but I could be wrong.
