So after a lot of research and advice from you guys, I have decided to purchase an F-450. I know the f350 would do the job but If I had gotten an f350, I would have always been wondering how the F-450 would have been like towing.I have found some 2019 platinums around my area along with limited’s. The sad part is I can order a 2020 lariat for $2500 less than the best current price I have gotten on the 2019 platinum. I understand it’s a platinum but the only options I really need are fifthwheel prep and led headlights so the lariat is the lowest I can get. With that being said, who would be Leary ordering the 2020 6.7 power stroke or the 10 speed transmission or do you think Ford has done enough testing that it should be a safe bet. I know it has a warranty but this is my vacation vehicle. If I breakdown half way down the coast with my fifthwheel in tow, it would be a huge pain.
There is a thread from a couple weeks ago on the same thing. You are going to get a lot of opinions on this. I am happy I went with my 2019 F450 Platinum. I also got it $11k under MSRP FWIW.
When I purchased my C7 Z06, it had the new 8 speed transmission. I learned my lesson and will never purchase the first year of any new design, I will wait a few years and see how it plays out. I know the fully loaded KR I just purchased will cost almost 3k more in 2020 but I did not want the new transmission so I went 2019. While you could breakdown, any vehicle (new or used) could also breakdown so like everyone else on the roads, you roll the dice and hope for the best.
I believe there is enough members on the F150 me included that were extremely unimpressed with the 10 speed in the half ton. Now they don't share anything in common but I really hope Ford does better with this launch as commercial buyers are not loyal to anything but productivity. The 6R140 did have some minor issues at launch, I hope the 10R140 is seamless.
Expect 20-1 against, reflecting the 18-19 buyers with full payment books who outnumber 2020 orders. .
No chance I buy a 19’ with chump change discount, and leave massive power/torque increase and new styling on the table...and leave a bruise on my rear end by kicking myself.
Caribou350, how did you get 11k off a platinum? So far the best I have gotten is $5000 off and $750 is rebate since I’m not financing through ford. This was off a platinum with a $85000 msrp.

Mine is $85K sticker as well. I forget where all the numbers were, but I ended at $74K even. The dealer I used in the Atlanta area was not the easiest to work with, but compared to the others in the area the price was crazy good. I took the great price and moved the next week back to TN with my preferred dealer. I wish I could be more help.
You just have to decide for yourself. As stated above you will get 100 different opinions from 100 people. Me personally, I ordered a 2020 450 (have a 17 350). The power increase alone is worth it to me, not to mention the new styling, new transmission, etc. I'm the kind of person that the first time I saw the new design drive by I would kick myself for purchasing the older body style. If you wait a couple of years to see if the new transmission has any bugs then you will just be in the same position of "should I buy a 2022 that has a proven track record or should I go with the 2023 with the new interior/electronics that may screw up. It's a never ending cycle. There are gonna be rock solid 10 speeds and lemons....same as if you bought the 2019 today. The poster above had problems with his C7 Z06 8 speed. Well, I bought the exact same thing at the same time and mine was flawless. The only thing you really need to decide is if a lot more power and a new redesign is worth 3 or 4k in price to you. If it is, then get the 2020. If it isn't, settle on the current 2019. For me, the choice is clear! You can easily get $5k off MRSP on a new ordered 2020 without any haggling today.
I chose the 19 over the 20. I bought a 19 F350 DRW loaded Lariat for 12K off sticker with zero haggling. Very happy with my decision, has more power than I "need". Heck I remember my 2002 7.3 with a mind bending 400 foot pounds of torque.... That was crazy in a stock truck back then, now I am well over double that and still happy as a clam.....
It is a personal decision, best of luck with yours.

Totally agree. Put my order in for my 2020 F450 this week. Went with a Platinum black / black.
My numbers (on a July order) were similar to Carabou350's for an F450 Platinum that I took delivery in Sept. My 17 F350 PSD had plenty of HP & Torque - wouldn't have noticed the increase HP/Torque IMO. There are likely some advantages to the 10sp, but have been very happy with the performance 6sp both towing and not. FWIW, I priced out a 2020 Platinum today and ends up being $4K higher in MSRP. I do like the 2020 grille though, but for me the right deal came together on a 2019 and a surprising trade value and the $2K PCO sealed the deal.

I work as an engineer in product development. I will NEVER buy a first model year anything. I know we go production all the time and things aren't 100% flushed out. Usually takes ~ 2 years to flush out the stuff we didn't have totally right, or missed during testing/development.
I bought a 2019 specifically for that reason. I have a friend that works in Ford powertrain division. He told me the 10 speed was coming, so I jumped quick on the 2019.
If you really want the 2020, are struggling to get a good price, contact Koons Ford in Baltimore. Their prices are invoice-holdbacks+$100. Even if you don't buy from them you can use the quote to squeeze your local guy.
The 2011 transmissions with 6.2s had issues, I had one. Just some bugs. I think behind the 6.7 they were fine though.
Personally would go in and haggle down a 2019 while they are still on the lots. The “new body” as mentioned above is just a changed grill, wheels, and tailgate.
But then again, if you arent finding a 2019 deal order a 2020 from a discount dealer as mentioned above. Just take the best option.
I have a 2018 F450, my last truck ever, so I am going to try to make myself feel better by saying the current trucks are better.
With the 430 gears, I dont see how it can shift 10 times to get to speed, and more gears mean more hunting for the one.
I do see having another overdrive gear might help when empty, but I got a f450 because I need a truck and it will be loaded most of the time.
The one other thing I wonder about is FORScan still going to work on the 2020s? My gut says no.
Sure is nice making changes to software to make the truck more like I want.
It might be 5 to 10 years before we know if the new engine and trans are more reliable, so it's going to be a gamble no mater what.
I will honestly say, if I had a choice today, I would go with the 2020, que "The gambler" by Kenny Rogers
