I have read a ton of these forums and never have seen an outcome of what has worked for the poster. I have an 89 f150 5.0l that i got from my mothers neighbor. The truck did not run. All the prts changed are front tank fuel pump, outer fuel pump, fuel filter (twice), fpr, map, tps, iac, dist, coil, new plugs and wires, thermostat, water pump, valve cover gaskets, took the injectors out and soaked in sea foam, changed plenum gasket, all the emissions like egr and smog with all vaccum related prts were deleted and plugs bypassed before i got the truck.
All of the parts were changed as i would get advice from these forums or other friends fluent with motors. And the last issue i am having with the truck is the high idle. It starts as soon as i crank over the motor. I just recently changed the vacuum lines and the iac as it was very dirty and clogged and i had an extra plenum gasket so i went ahead and changed it. Turned the truck over and still nothing. The idle goes down when i put the truck into gear and when i begin to decelerate i have to manually down shift so it will go into a lower gear more easily or else is shakes really bad.
im stuck and would really like to to get the idle fixed. I havent checked codes since i changed the recent parts. But i plan on it this evening when i get off of work. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Make sure your linkage is not sticking or binding . Try manually pushing the throttle plate all the way to the stop screw (or as far as it will go ) On mine I replaced every sensor it had till I did this & by doing this the idle slowed down to normal while I was pushing the throttle plate ,But once I released it ,it went back to high idle . Youve probably alredy done this , but just trying to help . . By monkeying with the throttle plate a few times -back & fort -back & forth , Idle is now most of the time pretty normal
